Multiple Discrete Docking Ports (Death to porous structures!)

Now that it has been announced we are going to have multiple undocks on citadels, with different sizes of undocks for different classes of spaceship to boot...

Can we please have specific docking points??

What do I mean? I mean "docking beacons" around the perimeter of the citadel that you must be within X km of to dock. Citadels might be BIG but they're not porous. It's high time it stopped being possible to dock through every window, airlock and crack in the hull.

Warping to a station/citadel would still take you to the closest point of that station/citadel as it does now, but "dock-warping" would warp you to one of (perhaps the nearest, but random would decrease congestion) the docking points.

Why if you don't have a timer and your not screamed you will be tethered. And if you do/are you can't dock anyway all this does is male me have to easiest time slow boating 50-100km or warping out and back

The undock points don't have to be vast distances from the docking points. They could be side by side, separated by only a few km... or not.

At the end of the day, the distance between any undock point and the nearest "re-dock" point becomes a new balancing factor that determines how quickly people can reship to face whatever threat is outside their citadel.

It might be that the best thing to do is have them right next to each other, but even in that case it has an impact because players will no longer be able to MWD freely around the citadel (e.g. to get out of a bubble) and just redock whenever they screw up and leave tethering range by mistake. If they did that while too far from a docking point, they'd be in serious trouble. It adds another way for skilled pilots to demonstrate their superior piloting skills and hilarious content for all when they **** it up :-)

Lastly, variable distances between undocks and "re-docks" could be a subtle buff to consider if/when designing faction and/or T2 citadel hulls somewhere down the development line.
