What is EVE? What is Eve to you?

I recently watched a thread asking about WIS explode out to 110 pages last I looked and as I read I realised that what was being discussed was more like ...

What is EVE?

We all have different answers. We all access EVE for different reasons. We all want it to be developed to keep pace with the expectations of the day. We all want new things to keep our interest piqued.

Most of us haven't played all the play styles available and almost all of us will never know what it's like to lead an Alliance or command an enormous fleet.

So if we have so many things in common why then is it so hard for us to agree as to how EVE should be developed and expanded. We can zoom out further and have more room to move we can zoom in and see what it's like inside Jita 4-4.

For me I love how Eve is science fiction with technology instead of 'magic' explaining why various amazing things happen. I tried Age of Conan and hated the magic. That is why I like how there is no Jedi and force here. Even though I hate losing things I like that Eve is a place where when something is destroyed its gone.

I enjoy corporation building and teamwork. I enjoy having to manage finances and I like how different play styles and personalities can fit together. I love trading up a storm and creating devious plans. I like meeting people and learning from them and hearing stories from across the world.

I like seeing my toon as he configures his science and industry while checking out his fitting and I use the WIS interface to access the options that expand from the holographic projection of my current ship. While ALSO nurturing plans to go blast some poor dude while also knowing that I don't really want to blast anyone and might not fire my weapons at the target when it comes to it because I prefer my fight to have purpose rather than random killing for no reason.

I want purpose like when I first joined and was absorbed into a newbie corp and its struggles against Hi-Sec griefers 'HI NEOXI GAMMA' I want my dreams of grandeur back like when I started a newbie corp.

SO then... what is eve to you?

The thrill of the chase? The sense of achievement as you launch a new capital? Being the highest earning miner of all time? Having so much isk you can hardly think of ways to spend it? Having created the badest gang around? Admiring your killboard?

What is EVE to me?

An entertainment option that beats out ****** TV and even shittier movie releases. It isn't my only entertainment option, but over the past three or so years, I've averaged 1 hr 57 min per day in game. Well worth my time and money.

By the way, since we're already talking, do you want to buy a rifter? I've got the cheapest rifters in Metropolis. If you can find a cheaper rifter, buy it!

A slice of fantasy (all science fiction is fantasy), sublimated aggression toward other humans, the social interaction with said humans. They joy of seeing my power and ability, both my skill with the game and my characters skills, increasing. Despite what many think there appears to be a story arc for the game lore. There are many elements that make it entertaining.

What is EVE to me?

Quote:
EVE...EVE is a chance to show that even amidst the horrors transpiring in reality there is still hope. That there are still those willing to take up the banner of freedom and liberty. That there are still those standing against the coming Darkness. That the sword and shield is, and always will be, there to protect the innocent.

...we will not falter

....we will not fall

For we are the Protectorate, and we will hold the line.

Aside from that? ship-spinning....ya, I can't stay serious with all the crap going on in the world; to depressing.

Eve would be a better place without the "if I don't like it, you won't have it" anti-WIS (or anti-anything-that's-not-pvp) crowd.
This is my signature. There are many others like it, but this one is mine.  Without me, my signature is useless. Without my signature, I am useless

To me, EVE is a wonderful way to mess with people and make them angry, without causing them any real life troubles.

With that said, I take no responsibility for people getting TOO angry IRL over internet spaceship pixles and beat someone up.

To me, Eve is the new Freelancer.

Right now, its mostly just space freelancer with sexy ships and pretty lights.

But I hope that someday, I could land on some city with my big ass capital ships and go for a walkabout around that city, leaving my ship(s) in some star port until I feel like using it again, meet new people and find interesting ways to kill them or rip them off.

And after a long days work, I could head on over to the nearest gentlemen establishment and put my feet up while watching scantly clad ladies dance my troubles away on bar counters and poles over a nice cold brewskie.

Eve is about Capital ships, WiS, Boobs, PI and Isk!

For me EVE is first and foremost a virtual world. There are only very few games out there that qualify for that.

So what is a virtual world for me? It is a world where I play a character and can immerse myself into. The world is dominated by players and player interaction that give you the sense of actually interacting with people inside that world. Some kind of "second life" (please note that I don't mean the game with the same name here). It is my second reality where I can do things that I can't do in real life. A place that is exciting and where many adventures await. Where I have the freedom to play as I like in a big sandbox environment.

Yea, I know. That sounds a little bit like trying to escape reality. And yes, it is! Let's face it, for many of us the world outside is just boring and dull. A game like EVE brings some excitement to our lifes. Am I addicted? No, not really. It's more the same excitement everyone has with having some kind of hobby. In the end I don't take EVE too serious. No one should.

EVE is EVErything!

Nah, to me it's just a game, but that doesn't seem to be the case for some other people

*discalimer don't take this too seriously now will you*

EVE is both Heaven and hell.

It's gamer heaven where you can enjoy the most detailed and advanced virtual world in excistance (AFAIK)

It's also nerd hell, where nerds go to take there nerd rage at the world for bullying and disrepecting them all these years, by bullying and disrespecting other nerds.
