Will we be allowed to change character names?

In regards to the Dev Blog "Exploring The Character Bazaar & Skill Trading", they touched on something important:

"That part really hits home for me because when I made that jump from 15mil SP to 33mil SP I went from being called ‘Turbo Dinosaur’ to being called ‘Kil2’. Puke. I also found out, after the fact, that Kil2 had been involved in some kind of corp theft which meant I had to deal with negative reputation issues for years afterwards."

They hinted that maybe there might be a feature where you could change a character's name with the larger SP and Character Bazaar changes. I'm assuming it would be the buyer of a new character during a character transfer sale. Unfortunately, the above sentences are the only piece of information we have in relation to name changes (in that blog, that is). I think we need more information on this as name changing in EVE would be a big thing.

One abuse that I could see from this is a scammer that committed a scam and can simply transfer the scamming character over to another of his/her accounts and wipe the name clean with a new name. I'm indifferent about that so it doesn't bother me but I think that's worth pointing out.

I hope we can get some more information on this. Seems pretty big.

Surely you can find an online Magic 8-Ball app with equally accurate answers.

he is referring to buying a character not a namechange, buying sp means you dont need to buy a character so no need for a namechange, train understanding to lvl 5 asap

No need to explain why the idea appeals to you....

Simple way for CCP to solve abuse:

Add a tab like corp history - if the char is sold or changes names just enter in the previous details, and make sure all the killrights etc are tied to a character id regardless of name.

TBH that is the one point of the devblog i understood, when most people sign up they type in any old rubbish and don't realise they'll be stuck with it a long time. I've seen some great chars on the bazaar but their name....noooooooo.

This right here is why the name change idea appeals to me most. I was planning on training and selling off characters twice a year as another form of ISK income. It's hard to predict how character names would be perceived and I imagine that for some, it's a big deal.

Your idea is good though. There should be something that ties to corp history or some other previous details.

Who knows?

I'm sure if they see money in it, they'll do another PR stunt and go ahead with it anyway.

Well the op clearly needs to train "reading comprehension V " pronto, but that aside I'll chirp in again in favour of the notion of changing a name with the caveat that the old name is easily accessible and it has no impact on standings, watchlists ect ec.

Yeah yeah, conciquences and all that but where it really matters you will check to see any previous aliases

I've decided that I am ok with characters changing name but only in a particular circumstance.

Once you get to 100 million skill points, you now have the option of taking on a drifter version of your body as a complete new character.

The drifter has a new name plus your exact same skills but zero link back to the previous character at all.

I wonder how much those fresh 100million sp characters would go for?

I hope name changes don't happen or at the very least, there is a public record of previous names, so we can track them.
Also, if you bad standing someone, then it goes by their account number and not their name so they stay on bad standing.

If anyone needs a name change, is the OP. What was he thinking when he pressed "Create a Character" I wonder!

That character could have a hundred million Skill Points and cost 1 ISK on the Baazar, and I still wouldn't buy it with a name like that. Not even as a PI alt!

Ahar! There's a lot of WoW refugees who come in here with their ultra-uber IDs that (after turning 18) suddenly realize what "juvenile" means. Why is it always the guy with a name like I'keel'U'fasst burning back to the station in a pod? Things that make you go, "Hmmmm...."

There just isn't anything that can be said!

Back in my pirate days, I noticed this is mostly invariable. The more "scary" the name looks, the more likely the player is to run away from any/all fights.
Then you see guys like me with normal names.... guys who think killmails are awesome, even if they're my own.

Name changes make sense. It's a sandbox, why shouldn't we be able to do it?

Muh consequences. Oh please.

namechange should be standard, no decisions are permanent except if you are an unflexible psycho

Dear ccp

I dun goofed. I (tick all that apply)
1. Lost my ship
2. Gave somebody permissions I shouldn't have
3. Hauled a plex
4. Made a stupid character name
5. Invested all my SP into mining
6. Gave some kind chap in jita 3b because he promised I'd get 6b back
7. Trusted one of nitshe's alts
8. Was making silly faces when the solar winds changed, and am now stuck.
9. Set my safety to fun, when it should have been set to boring, and I'm now down 1 expensive ship and some sec status
10. Hit jump instead of bridge
11. Trusted somebody who mailed me explaining that he was a space-prince who needed my help in helping him secure his riches from jove-space, after which he would share them with me for helping him.

Given that this game's philosophy is all about my actions not having consequences, please fix.

We should.

It's not a popular perspective but if you want to mirror real life, we should be able to change names somehow.

I'd make it stupidly expensive, and not in Aurum, Isk or $.

I'd make it so that it would cost you around 2 million SP to make it a less than casual decision.

I'd also implemented the above posted suggestion that aliases were posted clearly in the Bio.

That takes care of some of the stupider names floating around the EVE universe, without giving more tools to scam with and blunting trailing reputations.

I would be very surprised if this does not shortly follow the skill point changes. As long as name changes are clearly traceable I am OK with it.
