This will be my first fit I post in the forum so please go light on me Sad


I was wondering for kite pvp ships (caracal etc) will a fit like this works?

Its a buffer fit

We have a lot of people that tackle the pesky people that come to us.

Its to defend our pocket and maybe tank some damage till we have some more people on site.

So you can say small gang but most of the time its only me and my buddy that fly cruisers most is just dessies, intill people come from 2 to 4 systems with backup

Too slow, probably not appropriate for home defense. This is more or less a fleet fit, designed for XX prot buddies and a logistic wing, not for fast, small scale home defense response.

Sure, you will out-tank a caracal, apply DPS from a reasonable range, but you won't be able to tackle anything with an afterburner, and you'll be (expensive) food to any half competent gang of 3 nerds.

My advice is to get a cheaper, MWD fitted, more mobile, with a real synergy with what your buddy is flying. Especially since you seem to be quite a green pvper.

If you want to fly a Proteus badly, get a similar version with full tackle (faction scram + web), make sure you have backup, and wait on the other side of the exit gate to your system to catch the bad guys after they're done, have your buddie in a scramble inty or any T1 frig with a lot of remote sebos.

Why not just hull tank? Your armor set up is killing your speed.

And the ovrrall combination of mods is kind off odd.

If you got long web support and tacklers then probably you might want to consider replacing the scram with another tracking computer or a cap booster. If you, however, must fit a tackling device, use a point; the scram with rails combo is usually a no go because you'll very often end up with smaller signature targets under your guns.

If you want a brawling heavy tackler use a mwd - scram - blaster fit but expect to have issues catching up with most targets, plate fit Proteus being a very slow ship.

p.s. small gang of dessies + 1 Proteus + an eventual another cruiser sounds very vulnerable to a rlml caracal gang and you didn't mention any logi support. I suggest you have some friends train for logi.

Hull tank a proteus? Unless I'm doing this wrong, I get ~66k EHP w/ DCU II, 6x Bulkhead II's, and 3x Transverse II's... which leaves no more low slots available.

That sucks.

Hull tank is pointless on t3 cruisers or ships with t2 resists. If you want to hull tank use a Brutix. That could be a cheaper solution until your friends arrive from the nearby systems.

Pretty much what people have already said, you have a couple of archetypes when it comes to most ships, especially so with the prot. You have long point + rails kite fit and you have the scram + blasters brawler/plate fit. Trying to mix them, especially without a fleet filling certain roles or without a fleet booster means you lose the synergy you get between the modules.

The proteus in general is a pretty terrible ship, if you want dps at range get a brutix, if you want dps up close, get a brutix.


Proteus offers you tank (not very much if you want dps though), but without a dedicated logi wing thats not going to help (and there a cs is better). And a mjd is a much better tank vs the kind of stuff you seem to be fighting.

Yes, its ranked 6th in the top pvp ships in EVE because "in general [it] is a pretty terrible ship".

Cause rank in top pvp ship means anything? Every smartbomber does it with a proteus, which artificially bloats numbers by the extreme, just look at whats killed by them - pod, pod, pod, shuttle, shuttle, shutlle with the very odd actual pvp skill.


Its like how the loki is a ****** ship too and its still at the top 10 because of its instalocking arty potential.
