A new version of the EVE Launcher is available here

On October 23rd we have deployed an update to the beta launcher. If you haven't heard about it before, check out the dev blog.

If you have already installed the beta launcher it should update itself automatically - otherwise you can install the latest version from here: https://binaries.eveonline.com/EveLauncher-973659.exe

The update has the following changes, fixes and additions
  • Client settings management, with migration of settings from previous EVE installations
  • Test servers are now optional.
  • GUI tweaks and fixes.
  • Clicking on the task bar icon now minimizes/restores the window
  • Fix for a crash sometimes occurring when downloading large files.
  • Fix for a network lag introduced by the launcher when running on WiFi networks.
  • New launcher log files are now created per session rather than overwriting the last one. The launcher keeps the last 5 log files around to help with debugging issues.
  • Log files, web cache and local storage are now all under AppData/Local/CCP/EVE, rather than being in 3 different locations.

Known issues
  • Launcher does not have a unique icon the task bar.

We are aware of the following frequently requested items
  • GUI - Checkbox for selecting accounts is not visually clear enough
  • GUI - Display portrait of characters near the account
  • GUI - Launch & Unlink account icons are too close together. Add confirmation dialogue to unlink.
  • GUI - Play/Quit process button should be more visible in relation to other icons
  • GUI - Server selection should maintain order TQ > Sisi > Duality regardless of what server is picked
  • GUI - Would be great to have the latest news back
  • Launcher - Prevent multiple instances of the launcher
  • Launcher - Should be able to minimize to system tray
  • Launcher - Start client with a specific character selected
  • Launcher / GUI - option to have the launcher minimize when launching clients
  • Security - Yubico Two-Factor support
  • Settings - Ability to migrate / import / export / clone client settings
  • Settings - Store client settings in server / cloud
  • Settings - Option to enable the launcher asking whether to download new builds (for 4g/bandwidth restriction)

Mac version
The Mac version of the launcher is getting close, but it is taking longer than we were hoping. We hope to start in house testing next week, and make it available to players for early testing soon after that.

FAQ
  • Can we focus on a running account from the Launcher GUI? - Yes, double click the running account, either in the account list or from processes view.
  • Can we use Steam with the new launcher? - There is currently no Steam integration with the new launcher, but you may join the beta by setting an account name for account created through Steam
  • Had # accounts logged in, changed servers and returned back to Tranquility, only one account remained logged in. - This happens if "Remember This Account" is not enabled, only the account last logged in will remain.
  • Information pop-ups overlay advertisement. As-is this falls under intended design, as we deem messaging to users important.
  • Switching between servers does not maintain a list of accounts. This is intended as each server has its own SSO. The tokens supplied for Tranquility may therefore not be valid for other servers.
  • The 'E' menu is hidden. - We haven't decided if we will keep that menu. It's a place for CCP Snorlax to add features that do not have proper UI support yet.

Few remarks:

(about 973625): The older version of beta launcher used underscore between path_to_shared_cache designation and server_ip. The new version - right after I started it - didn't (e.g. c_games_eve_basetq_1.2.3.4 vs. c_games_eve_base_tq_1.2.3.4) - which caused minor sideffect of profiles not being seen in newer version of beta launcher. NOTE: cannot reproduce it with 973659. But maybe there're some underscore related issues still present.

The directory with all settings is bound to path_to_shared_cache and server_ip. Any changes here (essentially cache migration) forces user to copy all settings manually. So before the final release it would be good to handle it somehow.

Also, one of the other things people do is syncing per-character settings - which essentially comes down to cherry-picking core_char_*.dat and core_char_*.dat files and copy/overwrite as necessary - or alternatively use hardlinks to share actual per-character settings under the same account. This stuff is particularly useful for things such as market quickbar or extensively changed keybinds. While there is nothing wrong with this method, perhaps new launcher could assist people with that somehow (as - syncing settings between characters outside the game).

As you moved launcher related files into single directory, perhaps it would be better to keep them in single directory, say:

CCP\EVE\.Launcher\{cache,logs,QtWebEngine}

instead of

CCP\EVE\{cache,Launcher,QtWebEngine} mixed with EVE related settings

Click on the E at the top left and then Client Settings
Or click on the profile button beside an account name and then Settings

I think that's the same window at least?

renamed profiles \o/, but would prefer the drop-down to the select box u put there .. was easy to see when launching what profile is selected for each account .. all in one page .. now if if i happened to forget whet i was doing the last time id have to double check the profiles ...

Doing the update from the launcher causes the updater.exe to just hang and not respond. trying to run the updater.exe with admin rights just closes it straight away

Only part i cared about. The rest will find its way to perfection!

The Mac version is my top priority at the moment, but there are only so many hours in a day...

The updater needs very specific arguments to do its job.

Try running the launcher as administrattor - if that fails, uninstall and reinstall from https://binaries.eveonline.com/EveLauncher-973659.exe

Version 973659 fixed the issue with the missing underscore.

Once the launcher has stabilized, I'll look into improving settings manangement. For now, I ask for your patience - these things are on my radar.

Qt has its own conventions on where files for web engine are stored so this is where they end up. I figured this was an improvement, without trying to circumvent their standards..

When trying to load past the EULA, the option to accept decline is hidden behind the 2 adverts. I have removed it, and reinstalled, but still no luck getting the EULA to come to the front and enable me to click past.

Edit - Found the workaround in another thread!

So, launched the beta launcher today, and it decides to patch 3.5gb of data....no clue why. It then proceds to hang about 30% of the way through (I waited 30mins for progress), so I closed the launcher and started the regular launcher, which is now patching 6.5gb of data. Grr....ah well, could be worse I guess.

My launcher started loading up as a blank white box. I set it to run in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and it started loading properly. I'm using WIndows 10, and it was set to run as administrator previously. The white box thing was intermittent in the past, and 100% consistent only today.

It's doing it again.

Please file a bug report, mention my name in the description so it gets sent my way. Give as detailed a description of your symptoms as you can and include system specs, including any virus protection and firewall setup.

Attach the logs from %LOCALAPPDATA%/CCP/EVE/Launcher.

I´m hoping to add diagnostics to the launcher to help figure these sort of things out, but first I need to know what the edge cases are that are preventing the launcher from doing its thing correctly, so this info would help a lot.

Thanks for trying the launcher and providing this info.
