Siphoning ESS in Null

So, here I was in Null and bored and was looking through the Market and came across the Encounter Surveillance Systems. I wondered what does it do and now that I was in Null I could finally purchase one, which I did and then deployed in system. Not really knowing what the hell the thing actually did I activated it and kept all of the loot for myself. I thought I was collecting bounty on Pilots but in fact I was siphoning their ESS as I got a few warning messages about the act being a KOS offense. I apologized, took a nap and came back later and donated 20,000 ISK to the local mining fleet boss.

Being bored again I thought how would I be able to get away with this in another part of Null. Once again not really knowing how the systems would work I looked through the Market and came across the Scan Inhibitor.

I'm not certain if this will work or not but the tactic would go something like this.

1.Deploy the Scan Inhibitor the same distance as the Surveillance System from a local starbase at 250km. The system should have a lot of pilots in it to effectively work. If my theory is correct pilots in the system would be able to see the ESS on their overview but might not be able to warp to it.

2.Deploy a Surveillance System one for each race within the Scan Inhibitor Field.

3. Collect the reward and then warp out. Collect the ESS' if possible but if not your haul should more than compensate the ISK spent on the four systems.

Additional advice to try:

ESS Siphon Fleet

Fleet Composition :

4 Fast Scouts (Prospect)
5 - 7 Mobile Warp Disruption Deployment Ships (T3 - Covert Ops and Warp Nullifier Fits)
4 ESS Deployment Ships, one for each race (T3 - Covert Ops and Warp Nullifier Fits)
1 Scan Inhibitor Deployment Ship (T3 - Covert Ops and Warp Nullifier Fits)

1.The Scan Inhibitor would warp to a location that was within 500km from the Starbase or Asteroid Belt which would depend on the intelligence report from the Prospect Scouts.

2.ESS Deployment Ship would then warp to the Scan Inhibitor Deployment Ship within 10km and position theirself from the scan inhibitor at the normal anchoring range. (only one can be deployed so choose based on race preference)

3. Mobile Warp Disruption Deployment Ships would then warp to the Scan Inhibitor along various warp paths most importantly being the path from the station to the scan inhibitor and any gates. Get the Mobile Warp Disruption Depots as close as possible to the Scan Inhibitor to close as many gaps in the Warp Bubble around the central Siphon but not any closer than 75km.

4. Once all ships are emplaced deploy the ESS Siphon in the following mode making certain that all ships except the ESS Ship warp to a safe:
1. Warp Disruption Depots 3:00 minute online time
2. ESS at 2:00 minute to online for Warp Disruption (only one can be deployed so choose based on race preference)
3. Scan Inhibitor at 1:00 minute to online for Warp Disruption

If the timing is planned correctly all components of the ESS Siphon should online at the same time.

Once online activate the ESS for click Take All. Because of the added protection of the Warp Bubbles Depots unless the responding ships are T3 Interdiction Nullifier Fit then the Warp Bubbles will stop them from directly warping to the ESS thus making them have to slow boat it to the ESS.

The only problem you might face are ships fit with Micro Warp Drive Units that might be able to Jump Drive through the warp bubble close to the ESS Central Siphon. Not certain though as this idea is being developed from chat with other pilots and that attributes of each Mobile Depot or System.

FYI I donated 20,000,000 ISK to the system SOV as reparation for violating their rules because I am not Pirate and felt bad.

The ESS will still show up on the overview, regardless of the scan inhibitor. The inhibitor will mask the warp bubbles and 'fleet', not the ESS.

I'm pretty sure you can only deploy one ESS in a system at a time.

Whenever ANYONE approaches an active ESS, the whole system is notified about it in local.

ESS takes a portion of ratting pilots bounty payments and converts them to Loyalty Points for the relevant faction. They only accrue the payout when people are running anomalies in that system.

If you deploy this in someone elses Sov, they will take great offence and simply come and kill it off. If you deploy it in your Sov, your alliance mates will expect you to share out the rewards. Doing otherwise is usually, as you discovered, a KOS offence. Shared rewards are given only to those who contributed to the ESS pool (eg: by ratting), pro-rata of what they contributed.

Shorter answer: If I understand what you're trying to do (get an ESS reward without contributing by ratting) this will be a hell of a lot of :effort: and expense for, honestly, minimal reward. In hostile Sov, they'll just stop ratting in that system while they form up to come blap it.
