Group mining

When I was in null sec the easiest way to group mine was to drop a couple of enormous freight containers in the anomaly instead of jet can mining. Many players could use these at one time while mining and dedicated haulers would empty them. I am now in high sec, but when I try and drop an enormous freight container at a belt, it seems only the player that drops it can fill it. Are there different rules for high sec in this regard or am I forgetting something about how to do this correctly?

I do not *know* the answer to your question, but am wondering whether your problems derive from the engagement-safety* settings of your characters interacting with a container dropped by somebody else. Perhaps, if they are set to green your characters may be prevented from interacting with such a can … whereas in nullsec no such security restriction would apply.
I’ve tried dropped freight containers for nullsec mining and find them to be a major PITA. I have reverted to jetcans with a minerals-hauler alt ferrying ore back to rorqual for compression.

* I forget what it is called, but mean the little red-amber-green button thing to top-left of your HUD.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

I think that does still affect it in Null as well. At least I know some of my corp mates weren't able to access cans and couldn't figure it out until we told them to turn that off?

But yeah, I'd recommend jet can mining and using an orca to tractor them into a central location and a freighter to move em.

It has something to do with being only able to "launch for self". I thought in null we could launch for corp, but maybe I am mistaken. I am a little confused why you can not seem to use a enormous freight container like that in high sec, players can still steal from if when setup properly.

I used to love them in null, just sit with 2 hulks in an enormous or colossal belt and mine away for hours without moving. Jet canning was and is still a pain, I was getting 5041 m3 every cycle with t2 mining drones from each character, so the cans filled up very fast even if just filling them solo. At least the freight container had 250k m3 to fill and was pretty much shoot proof. Maybe being shoot proof is why they don't seem to work in high sec?

Anyway no worries, thanks for the responses guys.
