Making Labs available to public

When I click on lab slots in the S&I tab it has a button saying Manage Assembly line. It then has a price to set for instalation and cost per hour. If you don't check the corp or allance tabs it then says publically available. Does this mean the public can use them somehow? If so how do they get access to it? If not I think they should add it in a new patch. Would be great to recoup some of the fuel costs with slots you're not using anyway.

No. IIRC if you set them to public, alliance members can access the POS. Otherwise it has no affect

I think at one point they were going to have them available to the public and that you could do exactly that, make money off having your labs up. However, it probably proved too fiddly to do or someone just forgot about it and never actually got around to sorting it out.

If they ever sort out POS's they might implement it or just take out that bit of wording all together. Though I wouldn't expect that to happen in the next 5 years.

Alternatively you could have people pay a flat rate based upon their skills(number of lab tasks they can have going at any given time) per month. You essentially let them into your corp, have them pay you X amount of ISK for the next 30 days of research time and have them renew it whenever they need to or however long they need the facilities. I'm not sure how many people would be interested in such an arrangement but given the shortage of research slots in high-sec it might work.

Assuming that you're operating a Large POS with 15 mobile labs(and nothing else) with a monthly bill of 300-400 million ISK (give or take) renting a lab would cost between 20,000,000 - 27,000,000 a month. That's quite a premium to pay for a lab and I'm not sure how much interest there would be.

Public = Alliance
Not public = Corp

But if an alliance member does use it then they can't take or place into the lab, so they can pretty much only do ME and PE.
