Forum search function - brilliant.

Sarcasm mode off!

I get an error message every time I try and use the built-in search function on the forums, and it is mighty annoying. When I enter the search terms and press enter, the browser loads for a bit and then the error message pops up.

It will be ticketed, but I wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing it - I've tried it out on a few sub-forums like S&M (ooh err) looking for specific fits, and See and Pee. I'm primarily using Chrome, but I also experience it with (yes, yes, I know) Edge. Are you having the same problem (even though I know the sensible thing would be to use Google for intra-forum searches!)?

Thanks!

(There is no rant here, merely seeing if others are afflicted with the same problems that, in their own small ways and bit by bit, day by day, are detrimental to my EVE experience. If this thread is terminated my faith and respect in CCP will have slipped down a notch...or ten).

At least you get a message. I get the FF spinning wheel to stare at until I just say **** it and back out to search by the old click-around-and-maybe-it-will-magically-appear method.

Well that's not good really, is it? At least they should give you the courtesy of having an error message appearing as the forum eats your search :(

If you get an error message, it means the search returned too many results.

Refine your search and it will work.

What Tau said, alternatively, use EVE-Search

Thank you Tau and Loyd. After all this time posting here, there are still things that can be learned about the place.

Thank you! I will certainly use EVE Search from now on...

...however, CCP should probably still fix their borked forums. It's been so long it's embarrassing.

I figured it was my internet hiccuping, as it was having some problems the other night. Guess it wasn't just me

I've always found Google to be helpful, as well. Append site:forums.eveonline.com to your search and it'll search the forum. Quite handy!

Obviously, I know how to type stuff into Google and press return, but this is very useful - thank you! Big smileIdea

between that and eve-search it is usually not too hard to find what you are looking for. my main problem is knowing what I'm looking for X

Personally I use Google, and begin the search terms (Google prioritizes terms by their order) with the following magic one:

site:forums.eveonline.com

The only problem with Google is that it doesn't preserve chronological order. However, it can be used to help narrow a search before doing a forum search.

It's always been limited in use and always gave me a time out with specific search options. So I still use eve-search :P

That's a handy trick, cheers. I tend to google as well as eve-search, because yeh, the forum search function is awful.

Might be worth someone drawing up a topic at some point listing all the problems/stuff we'd like. A full scale forum rebuild probably is a massive task but a 'little things' list could probably be worked through gradually.

There is literally nothing good about the in-built forum search feature. Even the dev-blogs tab which you'd expect to be 100% indexed takes a great many seconds to load when you first click on it.

If you click the "Search Tools" button and choose a time period, it adds another drop down that lets you sort by date instead of relevance.

I think it orders by scan date, not post date. They are close, but not always the same.

For what it is worth, the first search I always do is:

site:forums.eveonline.com cabalander followed_by_whatever

I tend to post a lot, trying to be helpful, and otherwise only post in "interesting" threads. I try to reserve my shiptoasting for /r/EveBlink
