Ancillary Shield Booster Confusion

A little confused,
I just read that:

"The recharge amount doesn't depend on the charge size, so always load the smallest possible charges to give the largest number of cycles per reload."

Does this mean that using up a 50GJ charge will repair the same HP of the shield as would using a 100GJ charge?? Or is the 'size' that they are referring to the m3?

Yes. Size and charge are functionally identical here, so both statements are true. ASBs only care that the charge matches the booster size but more of the smaller ones fit better. So, for instance, XL cap boosters should get the smaller of the two XL charges (400s) so you can fit more in the booster at a time.

So if it's true that a 50 is equal in power to a 100, then why have so many variations?? Why dont they just have a Small charge, a Medium charge, etc...

Ohhh, to answer my own question, Its probably so that the system would work with the existing cap booster mod that already had the charges in place (Unlike the ancillary armor booster which just had nanites).

They make a difference in cap boosters (where larger charges restore more cap). It's only ASBs where charge size has to merely match module size to work.

Yup, pretty much.

it was intended to provide some flexibility, if you go on a roam and use most of your 400s in your xl asb you can loot some 800s from wrecks and keep going. not sure how often the wrong sized cap charges get used, would be interesting to find out. think it is meant as more of a last resort thing.

Navy CAP charges are smaller (m3) so the ancillary booster can fit more of them - a couple of extra cycles can mean the difference between life and death!
