All I have to say is this.

Linking videos showing actual gameplay, even sped up gameplay, is a surefire way to ensure no new people will join this great game. How many people see stuff like that and say,"Wow, I really want to play one of those little red or blue squares! Sign me up!".

No need to lie about the game, but at least if you are going to show it to the general public, show it to a good advantage. Remove the overview, zoom in on ships, enable trails, etc. It's not going to kill a fleet to haul out one of it's pilots to be a cloaky cameraman for some decent footage. Is it?

As for the article itself. Pretty generic, in my opinion.

To be honest, Mr. Epeen, I joined because of this screenshot and a few Reddit posts and a TMC article on the great battle.

Haven't been disappointed yet.

Maybe if CCP hired Mad Ani they'd be at 100 000 PCU by now, heh.

Did you bother reading the comments on the video from people that don't play Eve or just present your opinion as fact, like most internet users?

Of course not. I get enough entertainment reading this forum. Comment sections are trolls trolling trolls. I don't bother with them as the people who post in them thinking they are being clever, truly aren't.

If you're dumb enough to have to open the box to "know" the irradiated cat is dead, there's no hope for you.

I agree, with Mr. Epeen. Just because a small selection of people are enthralled by footage of rotating squares does not mean that is the majority opinion. Before I started playing EVE, I went very far too find as much research material as I could possibly find on the game so I could know exactly what kind of job I wanted to have when I started the game. I spent hours perusing youtube for videos, that were slow and descriptive enough that I could understand what was going on.

To my dismay, I founds hours upon hours, of footage that consisted solely of squares, in a box, rotating in a circle. Most of the footage that I could find that was not this concept consisted of experienced solo'ers doing series of random things using an esoteric lexicon concentric to the game, and randomly killing people with no context other than a few lines of text written on the screen. I was enthralled by the idea of the game world, but all that I could see of the world insisted nothing was enthralling about it. (With notable exception of "Clear Skies" and CCP created trailers.)

Ultimately, what wound up getting me interested in the game was watching the videos of J2JonJeremy, an individual who possessed absolutely no insight on how the game mechanics worked, what its community was like, how the markets worked, or even how to make money. The video footage was a guy with his camera zoomed too far on his ship all of the time or Captain's Quarters for a solid 2/3s of the video, not grouping his guns, always using the "look at" function, fitting poorly, only ever doing missions, almost always alone, and the comments section looked like a selection of text cut from "Twitch Plays". It was all terrible EVE playing, but it is honestly what sold me on the game. Seeing a guy living in the universe and experiencing the universe as a sort of adventure was amazing to me and it is still the best video series on EVE that I have seen to date.

I apologize for the length, but the record really needs to be set straight that the things that EVE players find chool in EVE are not really what make good video content for EVE. At least not to be appealing to anyone looking to play the game for "adventure".

You have obviously not played many strategy games. Games like Planetary Annihilation and Command and Conquer were pretty much made to cater to people that can move around a bunch of squares on a map. That's the kind of people eve will likely appeal more to.

C&C had unique unit model that could be seen at all time unless you somehow player on a 5 inch screen. Unless you looked at video of the minimap maybe?

EVE is like MUD or D&D. Is not an spectator game, is all about being there. But I like articles about eve, that always get new people. People who join eve are self motivated people, not people who join for the cool graphics.

I admit that I join eve after a friend told me about B-R5RB. I

The real philosophical quandry is why do cats have such a fascination with jumping in boxes when their very existence might depend on quantum entanglement.
