So here's my problem, Been gone away from eve for about 6 months. Gotta love real life. Well im back now and not really looking forward into getting back into a missile boat. Was flying a t2 fitted drake soloing lvl 4's before i left, tried raven and hated it. So now im looking more towards a faster ship that doesn't just sit there and press f1 from the start to end of mission. Not sure about guns/lasers etc etc My main play time will consist mainly of mission if that helps answer my question no pvp as of yet. (trying to understand the game more before i get into pvp) So what im asking is what should i be looking into for a fast ship shield/armor tanked doesnt matter although i have pretty good skills so far in shield tanking but can train armor either way.
And ive tried to narrow down as much as i could but i just have no idea as to what im really looking for.

been doing a little reading and the artillery guns actually look like what im looking for for the sniping if need be in missions.
and of course im assuming i would need to cross train into minmitar. not able to log into eve atm but would missiles help with minmitar or are they pretty much strictly gunnery?

you could try a drone boat, then you'd never have to press f1, and would have 'yelling at your drones' to keep you occupied and stop you getting bored.

Try the Tengu.
Of course that's a missile ship however, it's fast ( like 700m/s with AB ), has got a pretty DPS ( 700-800 ) and a freakin' tank.

Missiles are used some by Minmatar (Typhoon with torps for instance), but they are mainly gunnery. How you should move away from easy-mode PvE depends on whether you want to do cap/target juggling in a blitzing battleship (NM, triple paint Golem, Mach) or dogfighting in a fast/nimble ship (AB Vaga, mission Loki, etal)

Minmatar have a ship at most levels that can use missile while you bring up your guns (Belicose and Typhoon for example) and the Stealth Bomber needs missile skills as well, but if you are looking to get in to knife fighting you might want to head for a Loki. While you are still on the missile side of things you can ft the Loki Offensive - Hardpoint Efficiency Configuration which will allow you guns, drones, and missiles (and you can always swap it out later).

AC fit Lokis make for fun mission ships as you spend a lot of time in close quarters tearing around at 500-700 m/s swapping 3000m orbital courses between ships.

Your passive shield skills can be reused on some ships like the Hurricane until you get other skills up as needed.

The only thing I didn't like about training Minmatar was the time it took to get Large T2 guns.(two months)

PVE missions will forever be boring, ofcourse missile spammers are VERY boring but even in a tricked out super duper Machariel it won't take you long before boredom sets in again. Thing is that if you go for the "funky" setups like non-tengu t3, hacs, AF or other silly stuff your efficiency goes down resulting in you having to waste more time doing missions to get the same result. So the answer isn't in doing missions in a different way but rather finding something more fun to do. Different things that keep you busy so when boredom sets in doing one thing, you switch to the next.

What those things might be completely depends on the things you like, thing is though that tons of people take this game way too seriously, play it very safe and decide to make their goal about numbers (wallet size, type/number of ships or whatnot). It's a GAME, why would you want to turn it into a job? Have fun, try weird stuff, try stuff you normally wouldn't dare doing IRL, ENJOY YOURSELF.

Excellence is not a skill, it's an attitude.

a golem keeps you more occupied then just pressing f1.

Doesnt necescarily mean it's a good thing though, because you have to manage the different modules properly in order to keep your effeciency up. If thats what you're after though and you can stand the long training time it is likely to take for most players then it is still a very good ship for mission running.

I'm guessing though that the problem lies more with the missions themselves then the ship.
