Building carrier advice

HI,

Need some advice on the best\easiest option for building a carrier in a wh.

Is it better to haul in materials and build the components or just buy the components. I can get an orca in to the wh its a c3.
If better to build them, is it more cost effective to buy compressed mats or just take in raw materials.

Any advice appreciated. And if you sell BPC packs for a thanny, drop me a mail

PS, I don't mind paying a little more than I should if it saved me dozens of jumps in and out of the wh.

Shipping components into a wh might be difficult given their size. If you can only get an orca in, then you are looking at 15+ trips for about 1.6m m3

You have slightly less volume (1mil m3) for minerals so the same issues.

Shipping in compressed ore in an orca is much easier, given you can use the ore bay.

So it all comes down to volume and what you can get in and out.

Done both. Minerals was easier. Downside is an assembly array that makes you a target.

Both are tedious with an Orca (built a Chimera and a Rorqual in a C2).

Even better if it is a C5 with a random D792 or M555 to hisec that a freighter fits through Blink

can a freighter go from a c5 to c3 ??

The class of the wormhole is irrelevant, it's the amount of mass it can allow that matters. Check the wiki for a list of masses for every type of wormhole.

Nope, a freighter can never fly into a C3. No capital (aside from orca's) can ever go into anything smaller than a C5, and the orca can't fit into a c1. The orca is considered a large ship, while the other capitals are considered extra large ships.

If you are building in < C5 then the capital is trapped and will never leave the system (I self-destructed the previously mentioned Rorqual, and the Chimera was destroyed after falling into an obvious trap, which lead to us evac-ing from the system).

The smallest wormhole an Orca can enter is a C2. You don't want to build anything in a C1, as the logistics are horrendous.

How often are capitals used in C1-C3 holes? I had the impression they put a target on your group so you better be prepared to defend it.

All the time, I have seen people mine in carriers with mining drones. Went through a c1 recently that had a rorq, thany and nag out.
Its more to take down invaders, poco's etc, but a dread can't be used for much else, so thought carrier could at least be used for sites, over kill I know.

Your question has lots of ‘ifs’ associated with it. Many approaches are possible, so your choice is really going to be based on what best suits your resources and style of eve-play.

You could simply bring a covops in with the necessary BPCs and mine to gather the necessary minerals. A carrier is not too terribad in that respect requiring only (very approximately) 60m trit, 15m pye, 5.45m mex, .85m iso, .24m noc, 86k zyd, and 37k mega.

Hauling the minerals requires somewhere around 800k m^3 of cargo space. I’ve used freighters and deepspace indies for this in the past although today, if I could not get a freighter in, I might be inclined to make the 15-or-so runs in that new-fangled gallente mineral-specialist hauler (?kryos) over a period of time.

Hauling capital components requires greater volume to be moved (around 1.5m m^3) and their 10k m^3 individual bulk makes them a little more awkward to haul. You can pack the corners of your cargohold with minerals, but with components you can end up with up to 9,999 m^3 of wasted space each trip (notwithstanding adding other things to the load).

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

You can fit a carrier into a DST with room to spare using compressed ore. You need an intensive refining array, component assembly, and capatil assembly along with 4% implant and max reprocessing skills for each compressed ore.

I thought you were yelling at him until I realized your first letter is not capitalized.
