...this video from Frontier Developments' designers RE: their process for developing rich, geologically accurate worlds on a HUGE scale.

It's amazing what these guys are doing. The only thing I could imagine better than this would be these planets within New Eden!

OP, seeing as its their job and industry, most of the time they will have seen other companies developments long before you or I. It is a competitive market after all and knowing what your competitors are doing will help you in the long run. Announcing it here on the forums is kind of dumb imo.

Its like screaming!! LOOK!! I CAN DO YOUR JOB BETTER THAN YOU!! Roll

Have you heard anything I've said?

You said it's all circling the drain, the whole universe. Right?

That's right.

Had to end sometime.

That is undoubtetly awesome. However, that's E:D - I don't see how that would apply to Eve. Planet's don't mean a lot in Eve and unlike E:D, the Universe in Eve is finite. You won't be flying around naming planets after yourself any time soon, if ever. It's just a different game.

Eye Candy is nice, maybe an expansion on PI wouldn't hurt either, but in the grand scheme of things, I couldn't care less about Planets. Big balls that ... exist, I suppose. Not all that exciting.

I would love to see more interaction with planets, maybe even make a system in which detailed planets can be used by both our ships and Dust characters. How awesome would it be for our ships to be physically in a battlefield and deliver decisive warbarge strikes!

Sadly, doing this would probably cost us a raid tier...

Crap, wrong game! Quick, somebody play me off!

Game lore won't allow a ship to enter a planetary atmosphere, a major component of ship construction is Tritanium, a mineral that is hideously unstable at atmospheric temperatures, which in turn would probably lead to humongous explosions and mass devastation if a ship did enter an atmosphere.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

Do you realise that many Ships in Eve are bigger than the actual battlefields in Dust? A single Ibis could serve as the central structure in a Dust map.

Of course, the maps and number of participants could be scaled up, even to a point where they seamlessly integrate into the gameworld. But then it will get really difficult in regards of objectives and victory conditions, or to create meaningful game content at all. Running/flying around in huge, pretty, seamless, open gameworlds is really cool and all, but it gets old quickly if there's nothing to do. And that's something the "newcomers" such as Elite:Dangerous, Star Citizen and No Man's Sky have yet to come up with. E:D - albeit "finished" is not as much a game, as it is a shiny space picture show. After a while, there's just nothing to do except flying around looking at pretty things.

Imagine CCP went and tinkered for a year or so on procedurally generated, seamlessly integrated planets, you can land on, always promising really cool game content for them to come some time in the far future. Do you remember what happened when they tried that on a much smaller scale with WiS?

CCP is already slacking off on the side of meaningful content. Eye candy is nice, but not necessary at this point.

It's also instanced, you can't have more than a few handful of ppl per instance and there is nothing player produced. It's a Single player PVE game where you can, at times, get interrupted by other players if you allowed it to happen.

They're not even SLIGHTLY the same kind of game.

Credit where credit's due. Eve's Balls are not the prettiest out there, but they are sightly enough for the job they are doing.

When Elite Dangerous shows me a video of 2000 people in one fight.. then I will be impressed.. Until then this is an apples/oranges discussion. The games have nothing alike simulation wise.

Would you rather the doomsday hit you and you die in a few seconds or would you rather the doomsdays take 30 minutes and you get to watch it frame by frame as your capsule is thrown from your ship and all those poor poor normals die in the fire behind you?

Yet the Orbital ammo we make uses Trit as a component. Huh, go figure.

Flaming, exploding, and unstable ammo sounds about right for orbital bombardment ammunition.

Also the trit in planet bombardment rounds is actually internal.. like a FMJ but the inner round is unstable.

Show me other games that will still allow you to do that. Like 2000 dudes in one grid/map duking it out while the server calculates everything.

I forget planets exist and rarely notice them. For me a planet is one of those things I see on gate and is where scan sites are usually close to. Do make purdy screenies. In terms of PI, I usually am only seeing color maps, not even noticing the texture map.
