Please note that the dev version may be unstable, and may even break the auto update of the launcher itself. It is straight from the CI build server, with no human checking anything.

That said, I'm happy to see that anybody is curious about what is coming and welcome feedback on that. Just keep in mind that there may half-baked features in there that we're just trying out - things may (and will) change before we decide to properly deploy a version.

The Change to the Settings Migration also is greatly appreciated.

I just found out that I did'nt have to use an _ for spaces in that folder name, the migration tool handles that nicely.

The launcher itself will continue to use the settings' default names (Settings_n), as does the Server list from the E-Menu of the Launcher?

Using Launcher 971279:

The launcher apparently does require spaces in the path to be replaced with an underscore ( _ ). Otherwise, the launcher won't see it and will create a new profile.

The settings migrator copies a profile to g_ccp_eve online_sharedcache_tq_87.237.38.200

On login, the launcher creates g_ccp_eve_online_sharedcache_tq_87.237.38.200

This holds true for both going straight from the migration to login and when restarting the launcher between migration and login.

On another note, how long is it taking people to launch the launcher? Mine was taking close to 2 minutes before I could login. The latest dev version seems to be a little faster, but still too long.

Good catch, not all parts of the name are properly sanitized. I'll fix that tomorrow.

Try turning of Automatically detect settings (Internet properties, Connections, LAN settings) for proxy settings - that can cause the slowdown. I hope to have a proper fix for this before going out of beta.

I think I now remember turning on the automatic detection of settings, but would never have made the connection between it and the launcher. The launcher now comes up in about 3 seconds. Thank you. :)

Should the launcher be updated automatically or manually

I have version 969236 and I see previous post stating 9711xx and 9712xx

I guess they are some nightly build or something alike, but I just wanted to check the version for a standard build was 969236 and I was not missing something.

or is self-update broken since I copied the launcher from another computer ?

and btw, since I'm living in edge (bad pun intended), where are these CI automatic build thingy?

New Launcher does not remember window positioning (for the EXE). Until it can do that, it is pretty much pointless as I still have to undock each character once logged in and move interface windows into the correct places.
I have 3 monitors, 2 X 24", 1 X 28", until I can log in and have selected characters launch in the right monitors - Any launcher is just not worth the extra time it takes to log in.

Launching multiple characters at the click of a button is nice - Once it can remember correct positions (monitors) and interface positioning (chat, drones, selected item, etc) it will be worth using. While it simply launches stacked interfaces it is pretty much pointless.

You also might want to look at Setting # or at least explain its function. So far you can't use the same setting profile for multiple characters, it just doesn't load presets if there are any.
Logging in a character for the 1st time and selecting a "Setting #" profile set up for another character - Doesn't work, the settings are not used.

New launcher- Launch multiple characters and they launch in position as per "Setting 1" = Monitor 1, "Setting 2" = Monitor 2, Setting 3 = 2 instances sharing monitor 1, etc and you would have a winner that is actually, time saving, looks good, is functional.

My opinions are mine.

  If you don't like them or disagree with me that's OK.- - - - - - Just don't bother Hating - I don't care

It really is getting harder and harder to justify $23 a month for each sub.

well that"s exactly what it does

EVE Client is the one seting up the graphic and monitor display, and store the settings in the preference file

so use account 1 on Setting 1, set up the client for screen 1, quit
lauch account 2 on Settin 2, set it up on screen 2, quit
then account 3.....

now you have 3 display settings, ready to fire

what u may want to look at is : copying your actual setting in the 3 setting before hand to keep your in game preference, chat, overview, then do the setup

(I assume you know how to use graphic setting to fix monitor and you are not using windowed mode)

Go to the E menu at the top left of the launcher and then down to settings. Select 'Development' as the version type. Restart the launcher. It should then tell you there's an update.

Yeah, that is not how it is working. Doesn't matter what Setting I use they all launch on monitor 1.

Also, when I (for instance) have an instance open and select my browser to type something here (on another monitor), the instance of Eve minimizes.

Not sure what you mean by your bracketed comment- If your talking about setting default monitors, it does nothing because as soon as I change the default monitor that is where every instance loads. If it is a client setting, then no I don't.

NB: running 7 instances on 3 monitors in fullscreen is gonna be somewhat difficult.

ok, I was talking about a "fullscreen" option that allows you to set which display to use. this does not work for "windowed" and "fixed window" mode (it's in eve graphic options in game)

now, what you want is something the launcher is not able to do because the EXEFILE (the eve client itself) simply doesn't work this way, and never had. the launcher simply lauch exefile telling it where the settings are, but settings don't store screen or position, or any windows
if it doesn't work with current launcher, you are pretty sure it won't work with new *as it is* now, CCP Snorlax commented on bunch of request saying promising stuff in post 319

let's cross our fingers

depending how u was using to launch eve before u might have difrent ways here ..

with symlinks u will have multiple folders each name pointing to your symlinked folder
and one launcher setting folder named c_programdata_ccp_eve_sharedcache_tq_87.237.38.200
go thro each of the symlinked ones inside is settings folder .. make a copy and name it "settings_1" "settings_2" .. and so on each of the folders and then send em to the new launcher settings folder .. hopefully if u were using symlinks u made the folder name distinctive for each account u logged on .. then on new launcher u pick the corresponding settings profile and ur launch .. suggest launching the clients one by one to check the settings and make adjustments if needed ..

if u did not use symlinks u already was using one launcher to log in all your accounts ? meaning u had to move window position every-time u log in ..

in the appdata/local/ccp/eve folder u prolly have 2 folders ..
c_"eve_install_location"_tranquility and the new c_programdata_ccp_eve_sharedcache_tq_87.237.38.200

go to the first one copy the settings folder then go to the 2nd one and paste it there 7 times (u can backup any "settings_x" files u had there ... then rename the pasted settings folders to "settings_1" thro "settings_7"

then u can just set diffrent profile numbers on each of your accounts .. first time logging in on em u will need to change some settings and stuff .. after that should be breeze ..

theres a cleaner way but allready long enuf text here :)

that usaly happends with alot of games when in full screen .. perhaps use your client in Fixed window .. wont lose any screen space (unlike window mode with the edges) and the switch between clients/ other programs is also better ..

Hi all. I am trying to organize my games files on my SSD, and I have need some guidance.

When I first launch this new beta launcher, it looks like that it download all the binary from all the servers (not only TQ, but all others) and some shared cache files. It looks like a whole new install. I have no problem with the cache files, as I already locate then and move it to where I want.

However, where are these new binaries? What folder? Can I move it to somewhere else? Can I delete all the files at the older folder (the ones created by the still official launcher) and keep only these new binaries?

Thank you all.

My client version is incompatible when using the launcher beta. Client version is 13.09.968069.
It also says Unable to connect to 87.237.38.200 on port 26000. Can i update the client somehow?

The launcher version is 969236. It's very sluggish. Opening client takes .. 10 sec or so instead of instant as with normal launcher.

The new binaries are downloaded to same cache folder. If you moved that using cache tool from E-menu, the binaries should be moved too.

And as it uses totally new binaries you can remove the official installation (if you want to do that).

ps. it only downloads updates to those extra servers only if you visit the servers page :D (which you did to see that those are downloaded :P ). Good thing that CCP appears to have options for those in development version. Although those servers shouldn't take much disk space (few tens of megabytes I presume).

That worked a treat - Spent 20 mins copying and renaming files to end up with the exact same thing I had before.
I have 7 copies of the same thing for 7 different instances (20 instances if you count alts) that all open in the same monitor. Can't select an interval number, only options are - Intermediate Interval, Interval One

The only thing this launcher does that the existing one can't - Is remember passwords, which really isn't a good idea with all the different vulnerabilities in browser based launchers

It's all good - I'll just stick to using the .EXE.
When CCP can release a launcher that I don't have to play around with game files to configure, I might start using it.

Quote:

I'm not worried about fullscreen mode, only reason i mentioned it at all was because someone said the launcher only works for window positioning in that mode. I don't see how it could as each instance only opens in the same monitor (default) and can't be moved. Regardless if you have 3 or 4 instances of fullscreen eve on different monitors and each one minimizes as you select the next, it really isn't all that useful - Is it?

I think the FAQ is missing a huge amount of very basic information - Firstly, how do you configure instances to open on different monitors - If it can't do this, it is pretty useless really.
How do you get it to save setting for different instances - So far all it does is open all instances in the same place with the same settings, regardless of which Setting_# is used.

# Launcher just downloaded an update and restarted, 4 times in 15 mins. No bandwidth was consumed after the 1st time so I imagine, nothing was actually downloaded on subsequent update restarts.

My opinions are mine.
