The best part about this entire thread is the OP going around calling everyone Dregs of Society, while at the same time telling them to get off there high horse.

I never really understood why Arrogance and Ignorance rhymed until now.

OP those dredges of society you go on about are just people being people. My group is worth more to me than your group and because of that I can treat you bad if my group will find it funny. Losses are next to meaningless anyway so why get so upset?

My suggestion would be to find a team; life becomes much easier when you have a group looking out for you.

Edit: after reading the rest of this thread I can only agree with the majority of posters. OP you have some serious maturing to do before trying out eve again. If you can't even understand that people may not think like you then you are going to have a very hard time.

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

Because it's the largest space MMO in existence, but it's also a horrible experience for people who don't like dealing with the dregs of society. This game attracts the worst people, and that makes me sad, because it's otherwise quite enjoyable.

I've been playing on and off since 2006. I've been back a whole 2 or 3 days, and I'm already regretting it. So, I'm out. For good. The socially-challenged degenerates have won.

Goodbye.

EDIT: To clarify: 1) yes, there are also good people in this game, and 2) it's not the loss of property that concerns me. I could always go buy a PLEX if I really need money. It's the fact that I have better things to do with my time than spend it playing a game with people who get their rocks off by ruining the fun of others - and that's all it was. The people who blew up my ship didn't gain anything by it. They simply enjoy making other people feel bad. This game is chock full of people like that, and I'd simply rather not interact with them - I avoid those people in real life, why would I tolerate them here? Which, again, makes me sad, because I do enjoy this game, otherwise.

And it really does make me sad, because I really do enjoy this game. I wouldn't keep coming back if I didn't. And I know there are good people here, otherwise it would not work as it does. The large-scale operations and such take cooperation. I see people cooperating all the time. Hell, it takes cooperation to form a gank squad! But I've never experienced any of that. In the nine years (on and off) that I've played this game, all I've ever experienced is PvE and getting ganked. And I'm sick of it.

This game doesn't attract any dregs, it attracts several types of people. This includes intolerant types who can't stand the idea that other people have the same freedoms they do. It also includes people who don't understand that in a video game with guns, people are going to get shot and that in video games, you don't have to have a 'reason' to do anything.

I don't care if some don't like me repeating this truth, gonna keep saying it. The problem is not and has never been the game or the people who play it. It's people like you Kotan, people who should understand enough about themselves to understand that they are too sensitive for a game like this, too sensitive to be in a situation where 'bad' (ie interesting) things are supposed to happen. You display that 0ver-sensitivity when you claim that people are somehow bad for play this game with in it's rules.

Many are like you, which is why most MMOs don't let things like that happen, because game developers know most people are too mentally weak to survive even an imaginary adverse situation. EVE is different'/ EVe and CCP don't care about how you feel. EVE expects you to be an adult with a "F it. it's just pixels" mentality. I LOVE EVE for that, I don't need game developers to protect me, I'm a grown man, I can deal with "kill everything" type video game players, I deal with worse every day in real life...because I'm married.

You don't have it. This is not a crime as most people/gamers don't either. What is a crime is not realizing you don't have it and then blaming other people for your own mistake in playing a game like this.

I think they got kills. Enough in a game with open world PvP.

citing "American Sniper": "There are three types of people: sheeps, wolfes and shepherd dogs..."

Miners are sheeps, so as miner, when you go into the wolfes den (lowsec) , get yourself some good shepherd dogs (mercs) or be a really fast, invisible sheep (Prospect) .

thats the game, like it or leave it, but don't complain about the people who choose a different role.

and if you are broke then you obviously missed the "do not fly what you cannot afford to loose" rule

I lost 2 or 3 retrievers, 1 procurer, several ventures, a ferrox, a few haulers, a few frigates, a prophecy and what not. gankers killed several orcas in Seil about a month or two ago (in HIGHSEC) noone was whining in the forums how evil those pesky gankers are...

The EVE mantras:

# Don't fly what you cannot afford to loose ## Work in RL Play in Eve ## Don't build a relationship towards your ship, it won't last ## Press F12, do the Career Agent missions ##

Dear OP, perhaps you should start considering Eve an e-sport. Because in any sport scoring against the adverse team creates joy and makes them feel upset, if not miserable. It isn't a sign of social derangement but a sign you and/or them have invested passion and time inside a game. That's what both you and them like about the game and that is what makes you return each time, as you state in the original post.

Your goals, however, might differ. Some people get a sense of achievement by gathering isk and controlling (******* up) the market while other people simply like the less sophisticated approach of blowing up ships. All is meant to be interactive and happening in a single, complex environment; and yes everyone is aware there is a person at the other end. That is what makes pvp valuable over blowing up rats. The idea that, the other side, the opponent (team) is an intelligent (group of) human being(s) able to come up with a challenging response.

You'll never be able to succeed alone in this game because it is a team sport. I suggest finding some people you share the same interests with and team up; plenty of people enjoy mining in this game. Even if you don't like the combat pvp there are always other options when you are part of another group and there are plenty merc corporations just waiting for a pretext to fire their guns.

Eve makes me sad because I basically pay a sub to sit around waiting 90% of the time.

Waiting for a skill to complete.
Waiting for something to finish building.
Waiting for someone to buy my things.
Waiting for the crappy eol exit to collapse and a new one to spawn.
Waiting for somebody to scout or help haul fuel.
Waiting for the cloaked ******* scanning my system to make a mistake.
Waiting for the fleet to form up.
Waiting for the FC to get done taking a dump.
Waiting for the enemy to log on.
Waiting for something to friggen happen.
...Waiting for the game to get interesting.
