If you have reputation of honoring ransoms, it also helps. I have caught same guy few times a month on his PI alt mostly cause I already know where he is going. After 3rd time though I stopped ransoming and just normally scram him to say hi. It's our POCOs he is using, so its kinda income that way too..

Wasn't it Tuskers that always honor ransoms?

Piracy is not dead.
From the other side, no way in hell you'll meet 2 guys in row that believe in such thing as honored ransoms.
You may thank "outlaw PvP'ers" for that.

I never honor ransoms and have never had any issue getting mission runners to pay them when I was out ninja-ing. Bears invest all their net worth in bling fitting their battleships and when you've got them tackled they fall all over themselves trying to fork over their remaining isk as fast as they can. It's glorious, but even better when you take the money and then steal their ship too, or blow it up.

Hi All,

I used to be a pirate back in the day with a previous toon (Which I sold...I know I know!!)

I was what I call a 'proper' pirate not just an outlaw pvp'er, I shot people to get either ransoms or cargo ejected. If that wasn't happening then I'd for the kill and pray to the loot fairy. But then killboards started to get in the way and everyone was just worried about the numbers.

So my question is....Is the traditional pirate life now dead in eve? I'm not interested in having a green KB and bragging rights about killing some noob in a bling fit ship in my T1 frig, I want to ransom people, steal their cargo to sell and so forth.

Is this still a thing? I hope so.

In a word no its not dead. That said its a different verse out there now but any true pirate adapts to it. We still ransom a lot and very rarely get turned down due to our reputation. Ensuring you fully strip every ship you destroy of all value as well as scavenging anything you find will cover most losses and make you a small profit.

One of the most profitable ways to earn ISK as a pirate at the moment is to hunt players doing DED sites. Ensure you have the capability to finish the site yourself if they run or kill/ransom them if they do not. On top of this you could extort a fee out of them to leave them alone. I guy I know has got so good at killing stealth bombers in FW sites hes started a relatively successful business to leave them alone for a fee.
