No 4k textures in 2015 roadmap?

Liked the update page, but one feature is missing that was planned on 2015 - 4k textures..... Is it still planned? Or is it TBA 2016-2017?

they have said b4 the reason they have not released their 4k textures even though they have them is that the size of that patch would just be far to large


i'm sure as technology and technique improve they will send them out

this again? you will not see any visible difference in game like eve yet it will run slower (unless you play on tard full zoom)

its only nice for youtube videos

It used to be that the texture would make the install way to big, changing to launcher should give the option to download textures if you want them (this did not happen) maybe the next launcher will make it possible to download extra textures for those that want high res...

Since my computer and I think many of the rest that play EvE could not display 4k textures I am glad they are on hold.
Considering the size of the textures and the horrible internet connection speeds many of us have I say NO to them as a general statement anyway I am not willing to wait the extra download time so you can have a gee this would be nice feature.

On the other hand if CCP makes them optional as in each player decides if they want to download them or not then I am all for this. Those that have the internet speed and the computer power to handle these should be able to get them as long as they do not affect me in any way.

While 4k actually can make a difference depending on how the base textures are drawn(proper artistic technique and skill levels hide a TON of crap when done right) EVE online really will never show a huge difference in them over 1080.
Here is a small image of the movie "Avatar" at different resolutions for the exact same frame.

Note that this is a still motion shot... Moving objects become almost impossible to differentiate without a very skilled eye.

Eve still has textures that sit below the 1080 standard. You'd do better to ask CCP to upgrade these textures and perform passes on the current textures rather than just upping the raw resolution. In 99.9% of cases the average consumer will see a retouched or cleaned up texture as higher res.. even if it isn't.


From a raw performance standpoint it makes terrible sense to go to 4k right now.. Most monitors cant physically display 4k textures worth a damn thanks to pixel density and ****** contrast. I highly doubt even 5% of eve players has a properly calibrated display of any worth. Most gamers just pick whatever is in the 300 dollar range.
