They could replace the grinder sound with automated gunfire...
Same end result, with a little less horror flick feeling.

Sound effect has always been that, from the beginning in 2003. They took the time to record male and female versions, too.

For all we know, that is the sound that happens on every pod death, because, typically, the character you delete is in a pod in whatever (newbie) ship you left him/her in.

If I were in charge, I would go by the country or region of the player doing the biomassing:


French: sound of a guillotine
Russian: sound of being fed to a bear
Southeast USA: sound of a body being fed into a woodchipper
Northeast USA: sound of a body weighted down with cement being thrown into the ocean
Canadian: sound of a firing squad (with somebody saying "sorry" at the end)
Northwest USA: sound of someone's latte getting spilled and dropping dead from being upset about it.
