A Sermon against the practice of self-flagellation

Good Evening.

Self Flagellation has, for some reason, become a topic of discussion lately.

Where people, believing themselves to be righteous, whip themselves with a variety of implements, in some kind of demonstration of their faith.

This practice should be at the very least, frowned upon, if not condemned outright.

Consider if you will, the Scriptures. The Book of Missions.

It is Written:

"Which test reveals more of the soul, the test that a man will take to prove his faith, or the test that finds the man who believed his faith already proven?"

Thus, we can see, that self-flagellation, being a test that a man, or indeed, a woman, for Righteousness is not reserved for either gender, or bloodline for that matter, since All are Welcome to be Chosen, will undertake to prove his, or her, Faith, only reveals a certain amount of the soul.

Thusly, a self-flagellant may be tempted to believe their faith already proven, by virtue of having self flagellated.

But such a belief is Wrong ! Wrong, I say !

For, it is not through self-flagellation that a person proves their faith.

No! It is from being flagellated by Someone Else !

A person may flagellate themselves with a length of rope, and believe themselves to be proving their Faith, but, as is Written, such action does not reveal much of the soul. Instead, that person should have someone else flagellate them, without mercy or restraint. Only then, would that person truly be revealing their soul.

Thusly, self-flagellation, should be frowned upon, according to Scripture.

It is Written.

And here endeth the Lesson.

Go with God.

See, people, masochism is bad. If I were to make a joke here, I would be stuck in my office for a long time writing an essay on "Political correctness and me."

Don't be me, do good stuff and let others satisfy your lust for self-harming, I mean. Roll

Having not laid judgment on anything you've done, or are into, we are not sure why you wouldn't extend us the same courtesy?

Your pride has led you to err here.

You fail to draw distinction between self flagellation for correction and mastery of the flesh and PUBLIC self flagellation, which is vanity and boastfulness.

My order denounces such public displays, our scars are between ourselves and God and for no other eyes.

Quote:

Any who believe thusly have missed the point of the act.

Quote:
No! It is from being flagellated by Someone Else !

There is a time and place for this, such as when a slave is errant of spirit and must be corrected, mediated with mercy, by his Holder.

My faith does not require proof to men of it's integrity. it is only to God that I owe such proof. That I punish the flesh to correct it's base and sinful impulses is nether test nor testament of such faith. It is correction, as a parent to a child.

of course I would expect such gross misunderstanding from a blood cultest.

For flagellants, self-flagellation is not a test of faith. It is a form of devotion. Self-flagellation is thus akin to nightly prayers or going to church.

Maybe try meditation? Get a nice cup of tea, sit cross-legged at the peak of a mountain and let the winds flay the weakness from you.

It is a sad day when sabik satire makes more sense and sounds more sane than things coming from capsuleers who claim to be loyalists.

To add to the discussion,
Nauplius, you can flagellate my slaves any time you want. Okay, sweety? Don't listen to the unrighteous on these here forums.

To be honest, a lot of religions have practices that result in ecstatic visions caused by drugs. In this case, endorphines.

I would be lying if I said I didn't agree with you on that point. My only issue with this is........ Well, using drugs for a vision quest or to commune with your ancestors is one thing, maiming yourself to possibly glorify some God who orders you to maim others, it doesn't make sense to me. Their God wants them to hinder themselves from doing this work he commands? If your commanding officer ordered you to march 10 kilometers, would you shoot yourself in the foot because your Jack boot wasn't polished the night before and you thought it would please him to see you suffer for your own misgivings?

Possibly because it was an entry tin the 'academic' category of the New Eden Writing Contest. For which, you're one of the judges. Did you, I dunno, miss that part of it? Or the part where even the Matari haven't been trashing the guy because it's a contest entry?

it's also fairly clear that she didn't in fact read the essay at all... within it I make it plain the reasons and intent of such a practice which is nothing like what she claims here, nor is it in any ways like the sick sexual fantasies imagined by others in this same thread.

What, Amarr can reclaim anyone, but I can't reclaim some puny satire on Galnets?

And please, feel free to lay your judgement all over my doings. I like to be in the spotlight.
