Tech II laser crystals

Would it be possible to remove the % chance of crystal decay and work it like the faction crystals (100% chance of damage, but the damage is lower so it gives you the same number of average shots)?

It allows for easier accounting of crystals, and removes a RNG mechanic that doesn't add any fun or excitement to the game.

The crystal decay isn't chance based. You get 4000 shots and then the crystal pops.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about mining crystals.

Actually I was talking about Tech II laser crystals.

10% volatility
.01 hp damage
1 hp

Works to an average of 1000 shots. I'm asking for a change so that the tech II crystals are 100% volatility and .001 hp damage, so they're always worth 1000 shots.

I wouldn't mind the change for mining crystals either.

As long as it works, it should not be changed. Or do you want CCP to spend their time for something, which neither statistically change anything nor does it help.

If they spend their time for usefull stuff like rebalance of modules, capital ships, future structures etc. we are more happy about :)

Well, it is a hassle if your Scorch break at different times. You need to replace the entire set even if one crystal is broken and then the almost broken used crystals mix up with the new set of used crystals as the game does not differentiate between them, which increases the disparity in the new set even further.

Not a bad idea. A bit more certainty in this regard would be a nice quality of life improvement.

CCP should add more NPC 0.0 space to open it up and liven things up: the Stepping Stones project.

There's few cases where RNG mechanics is necessary, like ECM.
I don't support RNG mechanics when it feels added just for the sake of it and this is what we have in Laser and Mining Crystals.
As long as the crystal's lifetime stays the same, I'm supporting the removal of such mechanics.

+1 randomly breaking crystals shutting off all your guns is tiresome rather than interesting, would be a welcome change.

It does not matter to me one way or the other and I do not use lasers that often so this is simply a thought on the situation.

It seems to me that the random nature of the T2 crystals is a balance factor, more of something than you get with any others but you have the random use aspect to deal with. If that is true then what do you propose to replace that random time element as a balancing factor?

This change won't disrupt PvP balance, or require special code to handle (it's already coded and working on faction crystals). All I'm asking for is a change to some number values so that it's easier to account for crystal damage on a group, instead of tracking each crystal individually.

I don't think that implementing this change would push off any other feature if they decided to accept it.

If they came back and told me that it is in fact a balance issue than I'd be more willing to factor it in. I think it's equally as likely they thought it added depth to the game, but over the years it just ended up being excise.

I'm honestly just hoping that a CSM sees it so the discussion can be had.

Is that not already covered by T2 crystals lasting ~1000 shots rather than 4000?

If that doesn't feel enough the prices could be altered to compensate, would take more expensive crystals over my guns randomly turning off any day.

Just to be sure, running ungrouped guns would reduce the BS of it to a single gun stopping right?

I am NOT suggesting that you should do it. Just confirming that it would technically "work" to stop the all guns disabled by a single crystal break. It does not resolve the inventory BS...

Since I posted simply as a thought I have no idea how to answer your question but I do know this as fact. There is no way that CCP can set a price for anything that is made by players. And as it is with everything else in this game you cannot use cost as a balance factor.

For all my time in the game there has always been a random number of activation's (shots) to the T2 laser crystals from this I can only surmise that CCP fully intends them to be that way.
Is it there as a balance factor?
Is it there to make them unique?
Or is it there simply to cause all the laser users to scratch there heads and wonder?
I have no idea and to this point CCP does not seem to be forthcoming with the real reasons.
