i haven't really run the numbers yet but I am wondering if it is possible to setup a compression array outside a trade hub, purchase ore and transport it back to the array. From there compress, transport black to the trade hub and resell at a profit.

yeah, it's an absolutely viable business strategy IF you can get your hands on enough uncompressed ore at a good price.

If you don't mind flying around with freighter loads of uncompressed ore, then that should work. Personally, I think that the market for compressed ore is still underserved. I would prefer buying and hauling compressed ore over minerals for my jobs due to the sheer amount of minerals I need regularly, but getting those, even at the big tradehubs, for a reasonable price, is still nearly impossible.
Buy orders for minerals still complete much faster, and Jita is so ridiculously overpriced.

Settled then... Sometime within the next week or two I will try to setup a compression center a few jumps outside Jita. I have a couple of billion ISK as feed starter. We will see how it goes.

And just for information sake, I am not a .01 market pvp'r. I try to set a competitive price that makes the market adjust to my reasonable profit margin.

Veldspar, Scordite, Plagioclase seem to be the flavor that Null Industrialists are looking for.

As a busy nullsec industrialist I never have enough tritanium, mexallon, and pyrite (veldspar, plagioclase / pyroxeres / kernite, and scordite / plagioclase variants). I also run out of nocxium and zydrine from time to time but they’re not, or barely, available from hisec ores. I live and work in Guristas space and industrialists in other regions may find that their shortages are in different minerals.

I must confess that I rarely search for or place buy orders for compressed ore … perhaps I should. If you start compressing, and if your prices are reasonable (compared with what I can buy directly in nullsec – not compared with Jita prices, I *never* buy ore or minerals in Jita), I’d be happy to buy from you. It costs me 30 – 60 minutes of time and 10 - 12 million isk worth of fuel to haul a jump freighter load of stuff from Jita to my manufacturing base.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

I tried to buy ore in Derelik and compress it, then let Frogs haul it to Jita. Back in the days I tried that, I met a nasty surprise - no matter how low markup was, ore took forever to sell itself. Even when compressed prices matched regular ore prices, there were still little to no movement.
Maybe something is changed, but if it's not, EVE needs more bloggers to advertise the beauty of that precious compressed ore.
