Which client does it go to? What handles that routing? How to we ensure it's secure? We thought about it but the CREST way is just better we feel.

It goes to.. um... it's handled by er... the launcher... secure um... well I guess.... okay I didn't think through that particular suggestion properly.

Thanks for the positive responses on my other two concerns, I look forward to your announcements.

Sooner or later someone will find good answers (and many not so good)
Until then we just have to stick with the way that can answer these questions for now Big smile

RE CREST etc replacing the IGB functionality.

As long as I can continue to use Siggy in a out of game browser on a second screen I will be happy.

If that goes away I will hate you long time.

An upgrade is not going to happen; instead, we should inquire how they intend to keep current functionalities working while we have to use an OOGB.

By making it so CREST can do that sort of stuff. I already have it working so that CREST can update your waypoints.

From within the game or do I have to alt-tab out of game to use the OOGB?

Out of game, the IGB is going to go away. There are plenty of options such as overlays and borderless window mode. I know how much people like the IGB, but it does need to go.

Humm.. how overlay is an answer? Yes you can have info displayed but you cannot enter info without alt-tabing. That makes all the nice tools we have hardly usable without a second monitor. Do you have stats on the percentage of players using such a setup or even having a resolution high enough to fit an additional window for borderless windows ? (for most of us it's already hard to fit all the in-game windows on one screen!)

As someone who lives in wormholes, trust me I will hate myself more if I didn't make that work. :)

When I say overlay I mean something like Overwolf.

Thanks for your answer. The tool looks great, though as I understand it will require special adaptation from the devs of the eve-tools we allready have. The big problem now is that I can't even try it because I'm on a mac. :(

Maybe I should say it differently : I don't really care about the IGB itself, it has this annoing bug on mac that will crash my game when I open it 1 time out of 2. But if I loose the ability to directly copy-paste sigs in Tripwire and check dotlan and set waypoints while still seeing the overview that will be a huge step backwards in my daily gameplay, not to mention eveapraisal, eve-central, fuzzworks etc in a click.

Fixed window mode does not work because it's a resource hog. I tried it with just 2 active clients a while back and with my machine (W7 x64, AMD Phenom X4 840 @ 3.3 GHz, Radeon 5770, 12GB ram), EVE became unplayable with lagging, freezing, skipping commands, sub-24 FPS all the time.

I have to disagree. I run up to 3 clients on my set-up:

AMD Bulldozer Black Edition FX-6100 6-core
16GB RAM
1 x MSI GeForce GTX650Ti Boost\OC
Windows 7 Home Premium x64

All with fixed windows (mainly just two but the do work) and barely dip below the required 60FPS on each client.

Edit:

I should add that two out of the three clients all run graphics settings with High (Set for Quality in the quick set) and the third with Medium. Completely stable.

If this is the way that this might be planned to handle things (and I see no EVE-related technical reasons NOT to pursue this route) do you think it's possible to reach out to the Devs for Overwolf and impress upon them the need to get their overlay working with the DX11 Eve Client? Last time I tried this (admittedly about 6 months ago I think) they still didn't have a working overlay for the DX11 Eve client and so the whole reason of installing Overwolf, using the TeamSpeak overlay functionality, was moot unless you switched the Eve client back to DX9 mode (and eww).

I'm right behind you

Could you please at least implement an option now to open links in an out of game browser or disable the IGB without such a fallback implemented? Every time I accidentally click on a link instead of going through the rigmarole of copy link address, tab out, paste into address bar, I'm terrified that my computer's going to get rooted and reminded that it already might've been on any of the previous occasions I did this.

Something like that is coming, hopefully this year.

Ah, so we will be able to open a webpage from inside the game? How will that work, will there be a place to paste/type the adress and there we go? Question

I am thinking specifically of the game help, since it's on a website. It would be cool if it was accesible from within the game, even if not with a full fledged browser.

Also would be nice to be able to play youtube videos in a window within the game. Smile

I'm not even running as high as Rivr. 3GHz AMD quad-core (forget which cause it's 5 years old), 8GB RM, Nvidia 760GT 4GB GPU pushing a 2560x1600 30" monitor. I routinely run 3 clients, and occasionally 4, with zero issues.

....what do you two think you're proving? You both have MUCH faster GPUs than him (around 2x and 3x as fast), which is almost always the limiting factor for EVE.

Really? Last I dealt with Radeon cards was berore they go bought up by AMD, back when AGP slots were common.

Quite apart from the specifications those are respectively 2009, 2012 and 2013 graphics cards. Not everyone has hardware that's up to date or from the high end of a previous generation. Personally my GPU is even older, a HD 4770 from earlier in the same year and, er, about 70% as fast as the 5770 all things considered I guess?

By making it so CREST can do that sort of stuff. I already have it working so that CREST can update your waypoints.

Those waypoints, plus updating in-game system location (for mapping tools), plus opening contracts, plus generating arbitrary item lists for multibuy -- and I would no longer personally have a use for the IGB.
