How to dock a chat window?

Hello, fellow pilots!

I detached a tab with chat channel from a chat window by accident. Now I have two chat windows: one with "standard" channels and one with this poor, lonely, detached channel. How can I turn it into a tab again? Stacking windows does nothing. Closing channel window and joining again reopens it in a new window, so no luck there. I tried to file a petition, but I could not find a category for UI issues.

Thank you and happy new year!

1. unpin both chat windows
2. drag the loner back where it belongs
3. pin the chat window.

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Already tried that. Detached window just covers the chat window (both are unpinned) and that's it. Nothing happends.

make sure you're dragging the loner onto the tabs (the destination window will light up)

Nothing seems to work. I've made a quick video. If you could watch it and see if I'm doing it right, that would be very helpful.

(sorry for low-res. My hardware can't handle the game and Fraps in high resolution).

Haven't watched but have you tried holding Shift and stacking?

OK, looks like you pulled out a window from something and it left the other stack partially pinned (it happens sometimes).

PIN both windows, then un-pin them, and that should clear the states and let you re-stack them. Note that having local anywhere but by itself is generally considered "bad".

Note the the window will light up when your holding it at the right spot where it will reattach it self. Something that you might also want to do is make the windows your not moving bigger. I have had this issue in the past and it seems to be easier when the window your trying to attatch is smaller then the ones your attaching it to.

Hope that made sense lol.

I tried:
- pinning and unpinning windows (many combinations),
- looking for a sweet spot somewhere inside the main window
- resizing main window, subwindow, bigger, smaller, thinner, thicker, ...
- looking for a sweet spot on a resized window while pinning, unpinning and yodeling "Master of Puppets" (by Metallica) hanged from the ceiling upside down over a bowl of salted water altogheter...

...nothing worked. But this:

worked perfectly :)

Thank you all for helping me out with this. I think UI needs some tweaks...

Well then that art was caused by you, cause "Stack windows when shift is pressed" is off by default

(ESC menu -> general settings -> left column -> "Windows" panel)

You're right. I had to change it while fiddling with settings some time ago and forget about it.

That actually happens alot regardless of whether or not the "shift to stack windows" option is checked. Currently, the only two workarounds are to unpin-repin both windows and try again or to simply use shift key to manually stack. I've also noted that when this issue happens, the window that cannot be stacked also cannot be dragged or resized until either the two fixes are used. This same issue has been ongoing on since the UI changed a while back.
