PVP heartpounding

Maybe some of you will know what I am talking about, a lot will perhaps not.

Regardless, whenever I pvp, my heart starts racing so much that I simply... Freeze... I am unable to focus on anything and I perform so many mistakes. As you can see by my killboard it is pretty obvious

However, anyone who have had this, how did you learn to ignore it?
I am wondering because I am very much interested in trying out pvp, but this sort of gets in the way.

Just keep doing it until it stops pounding. Worked for me heck I was brawling a confessor in a svipul and I had most of my mind looking at local if it would spike instead of the actual fight itself because I know I would win.

There was a thread recently about this.

I still get them. It never completely goes away but it does subside to the point you can at least operate eventually. Basically just keep practicing until it becomes second nature.

I only get it if I'm risking a particularly expensive ship... especially if I'm about to lose it... and then sometimes I lose the ship because of it :/

This is a signature.

It has a 25m signature.

No it's not a cosmic signature.

Probably.

Btw my corp's recruiting.

That is pretty much standard for most people to begin with. It dies down after a good while. But still, when im manually buzzing round a number of ships that could hit me very hard if i make the slightest mistake, or if its against someone i really dont want to die to, my hand can shake a little.

Only time will make it better, but if you are playing correctly it will never fully go away. It might get the the point where its been so long since you had it that it takes you by surprise :p

I think having a good expectation of what the enemies are going to be capable of helps. A new player has so much to learn, i think its the unknown that drives the shakes.

Also, join a good corp and fly in gangs where your anxiety doesnt result in your immediate death.

The inability to function goes away but for non-trivial fights the shaking hands and pounding heart remain. I had the longest solo fight of my life about 2 weeks ago - 15 minutes against 8 GMVA guys spanning a 1000km distance - and the shakes were there the whole way through. Had to have a lie down afterwards but it didn't stop me doing what needed to be done in the battle.

I've played since 2003/2004, the heart pounding never has gone away for me, regardless of the engagement, whether solo, gang or fleet. The freezing goes away, but the hand shaking and heart pounding never has. When it does, I'll leave EVE.

About 6 years ago, I had a 20 minute long ceptor dual at the EC-P8R gate. Closest thing to a dog fight I've ever encountered in EVE. It really was an instance of, first person to make a mistake is dead. After the fight, warped back to the gate, jumped into HI-Sec and walked away for an hour to cool off. That was an amazing experience lol.

Trust me when I say: It quickly fades, and you'll miss it when it does.

You'll end up just another 'Shakes' junkie like the rest of us, always looking for that first hit.

It's just funny because I have perfect skills, but I get nervous regardless. Yesterday I even fled from a pvp fitted Imicus while flying a pvp fitted Imperial Slicer

Buy 50 rookie ships or t1 frigs, undock with the purpose of losing them. Repeat until the shakes attenuate.

p.s. No idea why this happens only in Eve. I'm at least half indifferent in other games.

I would guess because in 99% of the other games out there, there's no real tangible "loss" from losing. You just respawn and move on.

That's how I see it anyway.

Imagine that you had to actually pay for your stuff in CoD? Like you're contemplating about how much hours in a desk job do you have to do to be ale to afford that SMG along with all its ammo and how are you gonna position yourself in a way that you don't die and lose your hard-earned gun.

So... like your capsuleer, you also must be properly "medicated".

There are many legal and illegal remedies for a case of the nerves. Experiment with a few every now and then... heh.

I've never tried, but I 'm sure my physician would look at me a bit suspiciously if I told him I needed something to keep my nerves steady and my mind alert while I'm flying my destroyers in New Eden.

Actually, it is exactly what most have already passed on to you in this thread. However, I can add a bit more...

Experience is the mechanism... knowledge is the cure.

To add to this if you do not get a kill with 10 losses of those, I will give you 100m.

repetition, and it will still happen on occasion no matter how long you have been doing it, that's what is so great about this game
