Amarr Prime – The state funeral of Empress Jamyl I will be held on the morning of Sunday 20th September at the Basilica of St. Gheinok the First Prophet, in the Imperial City of Dam-Torsad on Amarr Prime, it was announced today by Court Chamberlain Pomik Haromi. With security concerns at the fore since the assassination of Jamyl I by a Drifter strikeforce, there has been a great deal of speculation that the funeral would be long delayed or held without notice at all. Rather than take either course, imperial authorities have apparently waited until enhancements to the already formidable shields of the Imperial City were in place.

While no remains have yet been recovered, and the likelihood of any being discovered appears to be receding, it is understood that the Emperor Family is keen to bring closure to the life of Empress Jamyl I in as dignified a manner as possible, now that security concerns have been addressed. Sources close to the Court Chamberlain have indicated that he is particularly concerned that the period of mourning be brought to a proper close so that the imperial succession can proceed in a timely manner.

In closely related developments, it was confirmed that the Imperial Succession Committee has been selected, with members drawn from the key institutions of the Amarr Empire. Court Chamberlain Haromi is believed to have held informal soundings with the Emperor Family, Privy Council and Theology Council in order to establish a broad-based but experienced body for the purposes of overseeing the critical process of determining who will next sit on the Throne of Amarr.

I will once again be on location monitoring activities during the morning. No official statement of time yet. Understandably more reserved than last time.

Any idea on what security is going to be like at the Funeral? Beyond the fancy shields they have?

Sadly I will not be able to attend the location as of the 20th.

In accordance with Imperial law that Emperors cannot be clone, capsuleer clones to be precise, and thus cannot be alive any more, Empress Jamyl was declared dead after her Titan and her pod were destroyed. A funeral, a state funeral in particular, does not necessarily require a corpse if, like in this case, it is very apparent that the corpse has either been abducted by the Drifters or destroyed by the Drifters. Waiting months or years even in the hopes to find the corpse of the Empress is unfeasible and puts discomfort and psychological strain on the Amarr people. The funeral is more akin to a ceremony to formally end the declared deceased Empress life in a dignified and appropriate manner and give her death the honors and decorum it deserves. As the article states, it is also a means for the Amarr people to put an end on her reign, give the people a chance to give her their cortege, and to open their mind for the new Empress or Emperor that will soon emerge from the Succession trials.

A bit OOC:

I hope that Pomik Haromi can pause his duties as Court Chamberlain in Sharhelund and attend the funeral on Amarr Prime in Dam-Torsad. Sarum Family should make him unavailable in Sharhelund for the duration of the funeral and put out a notice to any capsuleer explaining the funeral, Jamyl's death and why the CC is not available at this moment to provide missions. (I put a petition forward to CCP)

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Well, that's a bit harsh.

Vollhov, I respect your faith and I know you are hurting, but that is not what she would want. I know she is gone and it's horrible, but the Empire must have an Emperor. Pray instead that they will instead be well and that God will chose the best one to succeed Her Majesty.

I watched the broadcast of the State Funeral with a real sense of awe. The Empire is at its best during these times; solemn, magnificent and redolent with tradition. It was a moving memorial to the Empress.

I was especially pleased that President Roden made the significant step of attending in person. It was a noble gesture of solidarity and respect to the people of Amarr. Given the perfectly reasonable expectation of either Drifter attack or some misguided attempt at terrorist outrage, the President showed great faith in the Imperial Navy and their ability to protect this gathering of the most notable from across the Empire. The representatives from the Caldari also did honour to their ally.

I would like to hope that this tribute of trust presages a wider rapprochement between the Federation and the Empire. Much will depend on the policy of the next Emperor, but a hand has been extended.

Humanity has won its battle. Liberty now has a country.

Odo Karachi was present at the funeral, huh?

I guess it makes sense that the snake who let the cluster suffer in confusion and dismay as the Drifters ran roughshod over it should be present to see the fruits of his labours.

I admit to an unladylike 'snort' as I read this description in the news of Odo Karachi's attendance:

"General Odo Korachi, commander of the DED's Genesis Fleet and believed to be overall strategic coordinator of CONCORD's response to the Drifter threat"

What strategic coordination by Concord?

What response by Concord?

I believe Concord strategy is to hide as a mouse and pretend not to see Drifter ships if they encounter them by some unfortunate chance.

Actually it's "put 30 billion ISK bounties on people researching the Drifters, and murder people who try to publicise facts about them."
