Salvagers on probe ships?

I was looking through the tech 1 frigates today and I saw all the probe ships have a salvager duration bonus.

Is there a use case for this that I'm not seeing? It just seems so out of place that I figured I would ask.

Back before the exploration changes (Odyssey?), relic sites would have some cans which needed an analyser and some which needed a salvager.
