Hi! I'm EVE Positive (+)

This player's anecdotes and attempt at positivity, among the gloom and doom:

1) Skill points:

Ive finally got some characters into a skill state where its slightly more about fine tuning, rather than building their basics. As a result I can do what I intended to do with them without it being an enormous arduous uphill struggle (which also was fun, but frankly frought with a lot of frustrations and inefficiency. Atleast that struggle prompted me to learn more and constantly adapt).

Now I can start enjoying some degree of more reward compared to my effort output, with greater efficiency.
Its not such a goddam arduous uphill struggle for a pittance. Its still difficult, but not nearly as effort/reward innefficient.

This feels quite rewarding, for greater profits/effort, and because I put in the effort/time/learning to get here. I did this. I earned this. Furthermore my future options are now much wider, no only in terms of diversifying my options in my current activities off the same skill basis, but also in taking on new opportunities that were frankly impossible (or unfeasibly inefficient) till now.

I think this is something quite understated in discussion on EVE.
Some people think saying this straight out is counterproductive, in that it scares off potential newcomers.
Some people think its false, because they themselves (by various expedient circumstances) did not have a hard time.

But, my perspective is:
-It takes a great deal of time and effort to build up a basis of knowledge, experience and raw skill stats in EVE, inorder to get good, efficient and reasonably comfortable in what you do.
-It also is a threshold for what you CAN do, in that once you pass a certain (wide and rather steep) threshold on skilling/experience/knowledge, suddenly you find yourself much more capable of cross-training other hulls, deepening your involvement in a specific activity or diversifying into something completely different.

Suddenly you find yourself capable of exploring activitied, and creating your own kind of content, that seemed impossible before.

For me, passing this initial hurdle, has hugely re-invigorated my interest and excitement in EVE.

Commuting on the bus, I now find myself staring aimlessly out the window, formulating all kinds of schemes and plans, sometimes jotting/mapping them out on a scrap of paper, for how to take advantage of this wonderful sandbox when I get home, with my characters now able to feasably atleast attempt them.

I want everyone to feel this way, and for everyone to know that the more you put in the time/skills/experience/learning, the greater your opportunities and rewards are. Stick with it, and suddenly you will find EVE opening up to you in ways you never imagined.

I think this needs to be stated more clearly anf often, particularly in this changing (i refuse to say evolved) gaming hobby environment. Stick with it, play hard and smart, and the rewards will come in ways you would not have even imagined possible.
EVE is your oyster, but its gonna take some time/effort/risk to shuck open its shell to get at the meat, and perhaps, a pearl.

2) Multiple Accounts
The benefit of running atleast two accounts simultaneosly cannot be understated. You multiply your opportunities immensely on either account in total, and quadratically again when the accounts synch together in concerted effort. You can enjoy EVE just fine on one, but once you try two, man, its a world of difference. In the current PLEX and RL economic situation globally, this can be hard to justify fiscally, but I guarantee you it is worth the investment, if you can spare it. Thought it seems counterintuitive against the cost for some people, especially initially, if you can make the investment now, it pays off enormously down the line, in isk, in what your opportunities in this sandbox are, finally, most importantly, your interest in the game.

If you cant fly two accounts, for now, then the next best thing is FLY WITH OTHER PLAYERS. They can fulfill the same capacity as above, and then some. Certainly they will help you develop so that one day you can run 2 accounts for yourself., and then be in a position to contribute your doubled capacity and diversity to theirs, for even greater rewards and opportunities.

3) PLEX price
The rise in PLEX prices (again, in a post seeking to be positive), is a challenge I accept.
When I began EVE, I paid 6 month subs in total (I had IRL money to spend then and unrelated to PLEX price)..
People have different motives and means, but for me, PLEXing my accounts is the bottomline concern for my accounts and actions.
I want to exist in this EVE universe, as ingame entities, on ingame means.
If I cant meet the PLEX price for my needs in my current activities, I am prompted to start looking for other ones.

Last year at this time I had a sweet deal when, despite my noobness and ignorance, after missions boring me to death, I skilled appropriately to run HS combat sites.

I researched the site details on the internets, wrote notes on them for reference.
I researched Dotlan for activity, sec and system connections, to find an optimal system for my operation.
That initial one was unfortunately **** (EVE UNI training hub, as I later found out.. Too much competition goddamit).
So I went back, researched harder, and found an even better constellation, and relocated.
I taped a piece of card with that system drawn on it , behind a pane of glass put of a picture frame. Bought a marker to write on it that I wipe with a q-tip dipped in a bottle cap of water (all of which now constant on my desk), so I could record the site codes I was not interested in, for better efficiency on my rounds.
I learned excellent tricks from other players competing with me, and figured some of my own, which I use still to this day, and with which I defeat other competitors (available for 50mil upfront).

How goes your space lawyer degree? You pass the space bar yet?

That's interesting how you post positively with one alt and troll with the other.

Would not be the first one to do so, remember serene(o7)?

Could also be confidential ballgag removal. They did both get rather stuck into the E1 scandal
That said I quite like this thread. +1 forum candy for salvos (now get in the sigil, no that's "fun" rope)

I do indeed, what you probably don't know is he was back with a different toon a few days after he put up his "leaving thread." He did a pretty good job of hiding his posting style until I said something that set him off and he started passively baiting me like he did with Serene. Then I called him out and he mysteriously disappeared again. Haven't noticed his new toon yet but something tells me he is still lurking about. Blink

Continued----->

But, after my return, the value of the loot I sourced has dropped, and the constellation I used to roam has too many people running it. I laughed, and cried, when I competed with a guy running in exactly the the same hull and the same fit, as I had thought was my ingenious solution a year earlier, a year later. This guy was my brother from another mother. I still had one trick up my sleave he didnt know (which Im certain he has adopted now), and won the loot, but I realised this endevour had run its course. And after a fond gf (of sorts, as no ship destruction involved), I set my sights elsewhere. This guy was doing it as well as I did before. He was my successor. Good for him. He can have it, and he deserves it. He will rule that constellation as I once did. I, however, will instead move on and outwards to greater adventures.

To NS.
Were I am now asshatting around in all kinds of noobish ways, but enjoying every single goddam second of it.

So, PLEX price increase, (and HS saturation, which is a matter for another thread) is a double edged sword.
Yes, it reduces the capacity of some players, with limited skill/experience/knowledge to make enough Isk inorder to PLEX.
On the otherhand, its a very strong impetus to play smarter and try/figure things you otherwise would not have. Or atleast o make a plan to make those potentials possible for you.

Roll with the punches.
Adapt.
Keep pushing your own comfort limits.

STICK WITH IT.

The potential of this game, and your participation in it, opens up on orders of magnitude the longer you participate in it.

DO NOT STAGNATE.
ADAPT.

The opportunities are countless. Do not be afraid to try something new and different. The nature of this game, as PvP, is sooner or later someone is going to start pushing your corner. Outfight or outhink them, or go somewhere else. Or, to quote Monty Python "now for something completely different"!

As I thought.. a conspiracist. Think as you wish.. I"m certainly not the OPs alt. I'm an on-again/off-again player from southern california who sometimes subs when I've grown bored with other games.. something about this game appeals..

Just so you and I understand each other: the burden of proof for claims is on the claimant (YOU). No proof = your full of it. I pretty much knew you were before asking the question.. so this back and forth was a formality for me to really see if you had proof. You don't, so QED.

However, your grammar is appalling, therefore I condemn whatever you say to the realms of rubbish. Begone, insignificant NPC alt.

LOL.. at least your judgement is using positive fact rather than a LACK of fact. Bravo for that.

Secondarily: how could I be an NPC alt? Wouldn't that require a level of AI that outstrips current human knowledge? Or am I missing something hidden in those gemlike words at the end of your sentence?

Can't honestly say I paid him enough heed to pick up on that but it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Im a failed lawyer. 3rd year dropout. (Ive never claimed to be a lawyer).

On the upside, Im now a 3rd year nurse student, and finally found work that I enjoy and is fulfilling to me.

Not that it matters in EVE.

Here we have players from all walks of life, all affluence (or lack of it), all nations, all creeds, all beliefs etc, playing internet spaceships together.

Its quite sad you cannot into that, and still harp on about what was a false ad hominem accusation on your part (unrelated to the game or the topics discussed) a full year later.

I could ask what it is you do for a living in reciprocation, but it serves no purpose, nor do I care. You could be a millionaire or a street sweeper. Doesnt matter to me.

Apparently I deeply hurt you a full year ago, and the pain just wont go away.
I was just talking about the effects of the economy changes back then.
Sorry that you apparently took that deeply personally.
