So i have my gas harvesting skill up to level 4 and i've been experimenting with finding good low-sec exploration which I have come to learn through experience and reading that the common position is that this is pretty much a lottery. I havent messed around with ladar sites too much until recently when I found one that was worth probably 20-30 mil isk.

Question: I got all excited, bought a scythe and some T1 harvesters and had at the clouds only to find I was sucking at a measly 1 unit per 30 second cycle, and I was in a ship that should have gotten a little improvement in yield?

So at 3000 units 4 harvesters and 30 secs a cycle i'm looking at 6+ hours of harvesting to clear a cloud...

What am I doing wrong? I don't know anything about physics, but 20 m3/min doesn't seem too great.

Gas harvesting is a slow, low yield mining option. And I'm not sure u can manufacture boosters in hi sec, only low and nul.

Honestly, I wish I had never wasted the time training the skill. U would be better off with regular mining. As for improved yield of a scythe, I think that is limited to mineral mining only.

The Scythe bonuses are for mining lasers. Not gas harvesters.
You can get ice harvester upgrades.

Thus, take a battlecruiser to it. Eight high slots, and a whole load of lows. And you can fit a decent shield tank because you're in lowsec and will need to tank while you burn out of scram/point range and gtfo.

Gas harvesting is slow, and harvesters are volume based. Getting gas harvesting to 5 and using T2 harvesters will more than double your yield, but it will still take quite a while for the non-wormhole gases. (And some of the wormhole ones as well)

The number of harvesters you are allowed is limited by your gas harvesting skill, so you won't be able to fit 8 harvesters on a BC (I expect OP probably knows this) but a lot of the wormhole harvesting ships I've seen are BCs (Often hurricanes)

And the biochemical reactors can only be anchored in 0.3 and below space, yes.

Alright, thanks, that all makes sense. I had some experience with W-Space gas harvesting and got my hopes up that finding low-sec gas seemed too good to be true. I was a little confused about the scythe's bonuses because you can find the gas cloud harvester under the 'mining laser' market folder, so I didn't know whether it counted.

Gas cloud harvesting 5 makes a HUGE difference from 4. 5 will let you use a 5th one and also the tech 2s which have double the yield per cycle ( though slightly longer cycled ).

I don't know if Ice harvester upgrades reduce the cycle time on gas suckers, I doubt it, but a ganglink does.
The reason you see a lot of hurricanes puffing gas is because it's pretty much the best ship for the job. Especially solo, as you will be able to stuff in a nice large cargo bay, 5 gas suckers and some stuff to GTFO.

Does railgun ammunition come in Hollow Point?
