Has anyone noticed that you can run exefile.exe instead of launcher.exe and bypass Two Step Authentication completely when logging into the game (by launching the game directly and not using the launcher) ?

Yes, they commented on this when they released the feature. It still protects your account against theft of character in its current iteration. It was further commented upon in the recently released CSM minutes. This will likely be fixed soon.
