Theory-crafting a Punisher that doesn't suck

The title says it all.

I'm wondering what the people think about this.

I fly the ships I love to look at and the Punisher has always been one of my favorites.

Yes, I know it can't hold anything down. But when you are 1v1 how often do you check to see if you are pinned?

Honest question.

Anyway, shitfit below.

No point fits are definitely viable, however your concept is flawed, it only really works with massive dps, not massive tank. This is because if someone can't break your tank, the first thing on their mind is : "Can I get out?"

I'll go over some of the fits I use for the Punisher, not at home so I can't link fits sadly.

1. No point max dps punisher. AB + Web for transversal control, Small Focused pulse. Does like 220dps with heat (comparable to a max dps Merlin/Incursus). It's unexpected for a Punisher to do so much damage and most people won't try warp till it's too late since the Punisher has such a bad reputation. You also have Scorch to deal with people trying to scram kite, you can usually win the tankngank battle but scram kiters tend to disengage alot.

2. Kite with beams. Like a Slicer but worse in every way. Cap is absolutely horrendous but the dps and speed is respectable. Once again it's unexpected and the element of surprise really helps.

3. Massive tank. ACs + Neut, AB + Scram. The Punisher has very good base cap and can run the neut cap stable overheated. I run a 400 plate, EANM, Adaptive Plating and a DCU. It works great against cap dependant brawlers that will just try burn you down (Merlin, Comet, Incursus, Daredevil, anything that relies on an AAR for tank). Just heat the hell out of the neut and pray they cap out before you die. The ACs put out respectable dps, have selectable damage type and good tracking too.

4. Fast tackle. Now don't laugh, the Punisher gets plenty of spare lows for speed mods and has a decent buffer due to the resist bonus. You can get your speed up pretty high and try to slingshot badly tanked kiters (Garmurs, Slicers, Condors). Following the theme it's the unexpectedness that makes it work. Try not to show your hand till you're sure you can slingshot them. Setting your speed to afterburner speed (~1000m/s) and just flopping around like you're helpless will hopefully cause the kiter to let their guard down at which point you set max speed, overheat your MWD + scram and try snag em. I usually run just an AAR + DCU for tank on these kind of fits.

Punishers were a favourite of mine with an old toon.

[Punisher, No point]

Heat Sink II
Damage Control II
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer, Nanite Repair Paste
Adaptive Nano Plating II

1MN Afterburner II
X5 Prototype Engine Enervator

Small Focused Beam Laser II, Gleam S
Small Focused Beam Laser II, Gleam S
Small Focused Beam Laser II, Gleam S
Small Diminishing Power System Drain I

Small Polycarbon Engine Housing I
Small Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Small Energy Collision Accelerator I

Set keep at range to Optimal range - Approx 4km
OH Weapons and SAAR and just kill **** that expects to be able to control range on you. Most won't even realise that they are not scrammed.

[Punisher, MWD/Scram]

Heat Sink II
200mm Rolled Tungsten Compact Plates
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer, Nanite Repair Paste
Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II

5MN Microwarpdrive II
J5b Phased Prototype Warp Scrambler I

Gatling Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Gatling Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Gatling Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Small Diminishing Power System Drain I

Small Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Small Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Small Energy Collision Accelerator I

General punisher. MWD into range, scram and apply damage. Select the crystals that give you the optimal to hit your target.
Yes people with webs can dictate range but the idea with this fit is simple.
Gatlings have the tracking and range with the right crystals. You land a scram, tank and apply your dps wherever you opponent is in scram range.

I like this fit - utilises the punishers great natural cap regen, small sig, and will survive a flight of unbonused drones forever - so if you can get under something's guns, you can slowly plink away at them.

[Punisher, AB Dual Rep Punisher]
Small Ancillary Armor Repairer
Small Armor Repairer II
Adaptive Nano Plating II
Damage Control II

1MN Y-S8 Compact Afterburner
Warp Scrambler II

Small Focused Pulse Laser II
Small Focused Pulse Laser II
Small Focused Pulse Laser II
Small Diminishing Power System Drain I

Small Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Small Auxiliary Nano Pump I
Small Capacitor Control Circuit II

I use X-instinct and Drop, but generally have a cap regen implant as I fly logi a lot. Mindflood would work well too I guess.

The Punisher is not as bad as people say. You just have to focus on its strenghts which would be armor tanking and utility high slot. It's good for what it does but as with everything it depends on the situation.

Edit: I like Yhora's fit ^^ I would fly it with just a single T2 SAR, and another resistance plating, but the dual rep with AAR is also a good choice :)
