Hello and welcome to Eve.

You'll find nothing here is really self-explanatory and there's no real easy way to learn the game. Eve is not for the faint of heart, but as a new player you have little to lose and is the best time to look around what this place has to offer. Eve is an open world, and there's no real railroad you have to follow.

The best way to move forward, is to join a corporation, as having someone teach you will make a world of difference. The type of corporation you'll want will depend on what you want to do in eve, be that screwing around with other players, blowing up other players or stealing other player's property. Or if you're absolutely out of your mind, you can become a target of one of the aforementioned activities (i.e. become a miner or go around shooting NPC pirates).

If you have something in particular in mind, I'm sure people here will be able to help you. If not, you can probably join a general newbie corporation such as the player run Eve University and go your own path later on.

There are currently 2 kinds of tutorial. The newer one is undirected and takes the form of achievements/opportunities, it can be a little confusing and is still being worked on by CCP. The older tutorial is directed and IMHO easier to work with, you can access it by hitting F12 in game and selecting show tutorial agents.

That said, the community is nice, and tends to be a bit older and less filled with bawling four year olds than most games. I hope you like it here.

the old tutorials got abandoned because apparently the average new player doesn't want to read that much. When I started eve I wanted to read EVERYTHING, and I think that worked out pretty well.

over all I think many parts of eve are pretty easy, the problem is there is so much noise it can be hard to quickly pick stuff up. Once you get past most of that noise, most things get much easier. For instance many ship fits go by general guidelines, and once you pick those up you can figure out a fit for nearly every ship in game. Most of my pve ships focus on damage and projection. My pvp ships want that too, but sometimes it is worth taking a trade off on one to improve the other, plus I'm usually looking at improving my HP/resists so I live longer, Sometimes this means improving buffer, other times improving my active tank. Also mobility is huge so I can position myself to get as much performance out of my ship, while at the same time taking less damage from the enemy.

the hardest part of eve is the people, but that seems more or less true for everything. In PVE getting people to organize and do their jobs, or in pvp where you still have organizational problems plus the enemy can adapt and throw something completely different at you.

For PvP I like the eve-is-easy videos https://www.youtube.com/user/eveiseasy/videos He usually discusses the fits fairly well, and shows some combat footage to show the ship in action. Many videos focus on smaller ships, and there are a few that focus on new player friendly ships.

for industry and exploration I'm not 100% sure I don't do a lot of either, and I have a pretty simple spreadsheet for industry.
