Yo guys,

ive been kinda Struggling with my Eve mac experience.
Looking though the topics here i kinda saw that apparently many ppl have the same issues.
Graphical Glitches, Game Freezes at opening ingame Browser, 3 sec Freezes on Opening Market, multiple Client Freezes if you close one and so on.
While there are some guys that point to workarounds that kinda help a little in some Situations, i kinda felt that most of thoses workarounds are a Pain in the a**.
So i kinda looked into the eve client. Apparently it runs in Wine.

Now if you look into WineHQ you see that there are quite some issues if you try to run the newest Eve version in Wine.
So i didnt try that - it might work and lead to the Same result as my approach, feel free to try that out. (you can install wine with brew on your mac), but once again i didnt Bother.

So some years ago i used Crossover and i had good experiences with it. (saddly i dont find my license anymore) -_-
So i installed the trial and used the premade win2k-eve installation out of the Library.
And vola, all Works like a Charm. No tinkering needed.
Ive toyed around with it like 30 minutes, starting 4 clients at once, closing some, opening ingame Browsers and Markets at the same time.
As of now, i failed to get it crash once and i tryed realllllyyy hard. :D
Also my Graphical glitches are completely Gone.

On Top of that, with Crossover i can play with Antialiasing, which makes the game look Better, that aint Possible with the "normal launcher".
So yeah, right now im toying around with installing DX11 in Crossover to get Eve dx10/11 to work on my mac.

But still, crossover seems to fix the most issues for me. It sucks that you have to buy it tho. Yet afaik Crossover still is just kind of a wine Fork.
My guess is that the "native osx eve" runs on an old outdated wine/wineskin version and if CCP or there partner would update it to the lastest Version and do some tinkering, most of our Problems would be solved and on top of that we could experience some "new/old Features" like Antialiasing. ;)

let me add, i made some assumptions about the EVE launcher, outdated wine version and so on in this thread, i could be wrong with some of that stuff and i meant none offense with any of that. I was just trying to figure out why we all have the issues on the mac we have.

i got dx11 to work i think, didnt change much tho, so im back to dx9.

if you look closely at the ship borders you can see some differences between native <-> crossover, but not much of a difference it seems, just the AA.
but still, no more crashes, freezes and graphical glitches apparently.

im using a mac pro and a mac mini. (and sometimes other mashines but that aint macs) ;)

I mainly play on the Mac Pro which is a custom made system with an i5 and a watercooling, cant tell you much about the temperatures since no matter how i stress the system the watercooling automaticly adjusts and the temperatures stay almost the same.

mainly i would say on crossover the game runs more stable, with way less crashes and freezes. But you have to buy crossover and eve in crossover runs a bit slower than native if you use many clients.
So in the end i will switch back to native eve after my crossover trial is over.

just wanted to say that I tried this as I had just bought a Jump Freighter and was unable to consistently get two clients to login at the same time even with CLONED EVE.. I was forced to delete the clone and readd it to get the two clients to login.. which meant I was always having to fix my UI/Overview etc..

I was very fed up w/ the mac client until i tried it with crossover.. CCP please fix this.. I shouldn't need to spend $60 to play your game. The cider wrapper is complete garbage. I haven't been able to play with sound in EVE for years. It's honestly a completely new playing experience using Crossover + Windows EVE Client.

The game runs smooth, can use sound, can launch multiple clients without issues, can run the game on higher settings. I don't crash because sound/eve voice is on. Thanks for this, you saved CCP a customer.

I'll give this free one a try... I can't even load up my game anymore, just "loading up station" and the game crash... *sigh*
