[Windows 10] Crash to Desktop, No Error Prompts

I've been getting a rather persistent error with Windows 10 Professional since I've basically installed it. No update / rollback of GPU Drivers seems to help it, so I will walk through step by step essentially what is happening.

Basically, if you are clicking too fast on any point of the screen, while holding down any sort of modifier key, the game will crash.

IE: If I'm holding down Crtl to lock a target, and I start rapidly clicking, the game will crash to desktop. No error prompt, no few seconds of white hazed locked up window. Just closes straight out.

This crash persists during any screen. Character select, in game, in map, in ISIS. No matter what, as long as I am holding down a modifier, be it Crtl, Alt, or Shift, the game will just crash.

Other Details: I'm running the game in a fixed window, across 3 monitors. The problem doesn't seem to pop up during Fullscreen mode, but I honestly haven't had a lot of time to test this. I've noticed the game will occasionally "flicker" a bit before the crashes sometimes, as I can see my desktop background before it happens.

Here are a couple of things to try.

1 - try running Eve in an alternate DirectX mode and see if the problem is resolved
2 - Unplug the keyboard, reboot the PC. Once it has all fired up (which it may take a while doing as the boot will probably search for a keyboard for a while then restart it again; this time with the keyboard installed and see if it was an interrupt clash on the keyboard/USB port for the keyboard
2a - if the keyboard is an advanced one like a logitech G510 then reset it back to factory default. It may have clashing function key setup. Indeed; check you don't have the combination key combo set to another other in game or 3rd party application at the same time; like teamspeak broadcast function and so on. Start with a clean slate again
3 - Check the USB ports do NOT have power saving modes enabled on them (just a thought - make sure they stay powered up the whole time)
4 - Try running Eve in windowed mode then back to fullscreen mode and see if error is truly the same in both contexts after a reboot. This should help to see if it may be something related to directx and drivers combo
5 - rolling back display drivers doesn't typically work. You must completely destroy all references to driver stack; using standard vga drivers; reboot into standard vga then re-install the driver you want. Their are various tools to do this properly on guru3d.com
6 - See if anyone else is reporting similar issues on guru3d forums focussing around the theme of your card/drivers
7 - Try resetting the graphics settings in Eve client to run optimized for memory first, then again with quality - is the issue the same? Set all settings to low/off. Does it still happen?

There's a few ideas. From the description it would seem to be related potentially to keyboard polling but it's hard to say. This is now a challenge to start from something that works and tweaking until you can get a resolution on what is causing it.

If its any consolation I had a period of 6 weeks between 2 patches where my Eve would immediately crash when running anoms, only anoms; nothing else! I lost a damn gecko each time! I fixed it in the end by deleting the entire game cache and downloading all the textures again. Whilst CCP were good at replacing the lost Gecko's they were unable to find the issue causing the crash. I isolated it down to a corrupt texture when a rat blows up. The repair tool wasn't picking up the corrupt texture as checksum still matched (go figure). Deleting the cache and rebuilding it by playing the game did the trick and it has been stable ever since.

Cheers, and good luck!

Updating so far.

Things I've now tried: Uninstalling EVE, Firefox, and Steam.

I picked FF and Steam because I noticed they kept randomly locking up in the Windows 10 Task Manager, so I just went clean slate on both. Reinstalling EVE seemed to be ok, so I went ahead and moved forward with Steam. The problem started showing up once again, so I quickly removed Steam again and relaunched. Error persisted. Cleaned the EVE Cache and Local Files.

Started EVE again, game was fine. Switched to Fixed Window across 3 monitors, game was fine. Closed out and reopened. Crash started again. It seems that as a temporary fix, I can swap back to Full Screen, and then BACK to Fixed Window, and the game will stop crashing. This is a fix I hope I don't have to do on a daily basis, as it's going to kill my drive to be on this game nightly.

Any other input at this point is highly welcomed. I'm stumped to know if something really stupid is causing this to keep happening.

- Are you using any overlays? Like Teamspeak 'who's talking' or addons from Steam that overlay in DirectX. I can't remember the name of the steam apps that are added with games like gamespy or something? Are they running? Try killing all those sorts of addons?
- Which video driver are you using? The latest one or the one you know worked well in the past?
- which directX engine are you starting Eve with?
- have you tried using a slightly different screen resolution or changing the color depth?
- did you try any of the other proposed remedies ref keyboard etc from the earlier post?

Cheers

Are you using nvidia graphics card? Their drivers are horrible and unstable.

Yes I am, but what a fantastic piece of advice! What would I ever do without it?!

- No overlays. Disabled Steam Overlay when it was still running, made no difference.
- Using the latest driver. The driver previous was giving me the same issues.
- DX11. Starting in DX9 makes no difference.
- Yes, it will always crash in Fixed Window regardless of resolution. Fullscreen seems ok.
- Yes, all of them. No difference.

Please try reproducing the issue you are encountering while running the log server. The log server will record what the client is doing in the background and hopefully provide us with some clues as to why this issue keeps occurring for you. For instructions on running the log server please see the following link.

Once that is done please file a support ticket and attach the workspace file to the ticket.
