EVE New Citizens Q&A

I played EVE for five years when it came out, but took a break due to changes in my family life. Now I am looking at getting back into it.

I am currently living in an area that has pretty slow internet access. I don't think that it will be able to handle fleet battles, so I am looking for a career that is not very high speed besides mining.

Is there anything that would be somewhat profitable that doesn't involve lots of combat or travel into low sec? I wasn't around when wormholes and planetary interaction were introduced. Would those be options? I'm not really into mining.

Setting graphic options does nothing for your slow internet connection. It's not like the graphics are streamed from the server. It helps with older computers though.

You could do Planetary Interaction, as that is just setting up some networks on planets and occasionally retrieve the loot. It by no means is a main activity though. Wormholes not so much, as that is basically nulsec space without local. You need to have quick reflexes to survive there.

You could do trading, industry, mining, and even mission running in highsec.

How slow is your slow connection, having a specific speed rating would make it easier to give you a real answer.

If you prefer shoo other players then low sec may be a good place for you. Even when they have a fleet battle they tend to be significantly smaller than those in nul.

Joining a high sec war dec corp is another option but there are hassles with that as well, mainly that most of your targets will dock up for the duration, drop and reform as a new corp or simply drop to an NPC.

If shooting other players in not your thing then you should be fine doing whatever you want to do.

You can ignore the graphics settings advice that others have given you. I have a slow connection and it does not appear to be affected by the graphics settings I choose and I have tried them all from minimum to maximum. From this I can only surmise that the graphics settings only affect the clients performance and not the client to server connection.

I think a lot would depend on the quality - rather than quantity, as it were - of the connection itself. Having a narrow pipe might not be so bad (so a low-end DSL line, for instance), and would be infinitively preferable to having a satellite connection (very high latency). What sort do you have?

I am on a satellite system in Afghanistan. I move around periodically, so I will have periods of time when I can't access eve. I think I am going to train the PI route and then train for T2 haulers for low sec runs.

Is there anything profitable to do with exploration once I find the site? I was under the impression that after I find a site it is going to be full of NPCs. Is that something that I can fight with a covert ops ship on a bad connection?

You could sell the site location if you cannot run it yourself ,you can also scout wh space for stuff that has been left laying around .....basically I lived in wh space before and had a terrible connection so spent my time scanning ,and scouting which my corp mates were happy about and gave me perfect experience to be able to travel across the galaxy as quickly as possible

Also we were cut into pve activities as equal share for defensive scouting ....in all my time when I was in wh I barely left my cov ops and made A ton of ISk
