NPC ship support that costs isk and has a limited time frame of use, like 48 hours

1 squadron of frigates - 250m
1 squadron of cruisers - 600m
1 battlecruiser - 300m
1 bs - 750m

players pay isk to concord and get their sidekick that responds to fleet broadcasts. 1 squadron = 2 ships.

thoughts? :)

I've moved this thread to the Features and Ideas board since it's more appropriate for this type of thread.

"Hey guys! Let's go on a roam!"
"Sure! Lemme get all my 'sidekicks' and I'll be ready."
"Indeed. I should get mine too!"

Congrats, you just came up with a mechanic that raised the bar for for everyone.

I thought you wanted to go on a Solo roam? How does a fleet of NPC ships fit into a Solo activity?

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

"Call for Help!" Requirements: You must have minimum 8.0 standing with a faction which controls at least one system (this includes Pirate factions). You must be in a system with that faction's control (Gallente will not help you in Amarr space). Terms: Choose from three different kinds of squads, 50Mn ISK Frigate squad of 5, 75Mn Cruiser squad of 3, 100Mn Battlecruiser squad of 2. Helper NPCs will follow you anywhere in a system, but will not follow you out-of-system. Helper NPCs have a 2-hour timer. Helper NPCs will warp off/despawn if you dock or leave the system. 12-hour cooldown of use.

Helper NPCs will not help you if you are Suspect or Criminal flagged(Empire space). If you call for help, and then become Suspect/Criminal, they will warp off/despawn. Pirate Helper NPCs will attack everything including members of your fleet who are not 8.0 standing. Empire NPCs will only attack what is attacking you, including rats(but not other Empire NPCs). Helper NPCs will have similar difficulty level to LV mission rats, with buffs to weapons and tank. Intended for emergencies only. Helper NPCs are obviously not available in SOV space

Here's a suggestion: try making real friends to help you on your roam. Shocked

Oh, you could even have real friends that you would be able to "Call for help" if you needed it. *gasp*

But then, why should you need to interact with real people in an online multiplayer game? I mean, whoever thought that you could get real people to do all these things you want NPCs to do?

Of course, having friends is preferable. At least you have to jump through a pretty big hoop to get what I'm suggesting(8.0 standing with the faction controlling the system you're in). He's suggesting you just pay for NPC friends to help you be a ganker, I'm suggesting an emergency-type benefit to being really good friends with a Faction. You can't expect your corpmates to be around 24/7 to help you, I don't even expect that in a 200-man null Alliance. With a minimum 8.0 standing and a pay requirement, though, I couldn't expect too many players to use this idea. I'm not gonna whine if you say "no" to my idea, but I can see more people saying "no" to just being able to pay for extra, buffed drones.

I assume you don't want belt rats? Because you CAN get those.

So what you would want presumably is an AI flown player equivalent ships. Then in what sense is that solo?

If you really like to solo just go lose a lot of ships for each of those one great fights like every great solo artist this game has ever produced.

Reality has an almost infinite capacity to resist oversimplification.

Isn't it bad enough that if your into solo PvP nowadays that you need to invest in a second monitor and a link character to be competitive?

I find it ironic that you want people to start buying NPC support on top of that and claim to like solo.

Not supported.

"Solo
a thing done by one person unaccompanied, in particular."

I guess in an odd and twisted way he would still technically be solo since he would be the only human controlled character in this little fleet.

OK you can have this as long as I have the ability to bribe them to work for me by destroying you once you are out and about with your little gang. Would be especailly sweet if they would turn on you in the middle of a battle we were having.

To be clear on this

-1 because for all practical purposes you would no longer be solo.

-1 because solo is solo(see above) and should not include and escort of NPC ships.

-1 because at no time and in no situations should you be able to control the NPC, or even to hire them to help you.
