I dont remember that line. They were very sceptical about robes and hairs because they are physically simulated and that it was very labor intensive to make them, but nothing like one hair at a time. Rather a string of hairs or a shape. Just look at those hairs. If someone said that in the interviev, he probably did not even made one of them. These are shaped with textures of hair. WIth alpha channel. Just like this one.


Maybe not that exactly, but it was something not far from that. The tl;dr is that it's needlessly labor intensive.
