New player experience

The new player experience is dreadful.

The initial missions are challenging and in some places confusing but in game rookie help gets you through, the challenge is good. Once you have worked on them the game becomes .... to open ended to quickly.

I was going to write a long constructive post about my PERSONAL impression of the new player game but I just can bring myself to write it :(

After a week all i was doing was checking my training queue, i wanted to start simple and mine so went of to find interesting ore and just got ganked.

I just wish it a shallower learning curve so I could enjoy it while learning it, as it turns out for the third time (over 10 years) I am leaving the game because it isn't fun.

This is for the game dev not trollers on the boards, 17k active players (when i play) could be so many more.

Shame.

Thats highsec saying '' welcome to EVE, nobody likes you''

Every direction in eve requires mostly a good sum of reading hell even mining has a 8 page whatnot, there is generally no easy way

How about you make it fun for you? Do not use a wrong mining ship and instead something that can tank Catalysts and actually fight back. Then you can sit in your belt, happily mining things and as soon as someone engages you, you launch your drones and murder them.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

Welcome to Eve.

The best way to learn this game is by picking the brains of experienced members in your Corp, join them on missions, mining ops or PvP roams. Playing Solo is like a baby fawn trying to survive alone in a forest full of wolves. Character skills are only a small part of the equation - player skills are a lot more important and the only shortcut to mastering those is have a good mentor.

As you've discovered, Eve is a sandbox. There are no levels - the only protected places are the rookie systems. On the other hand, there are a lot of player corporations that specialize in teaching new players the game - Eve University as an example. Your chances of succeeding in the game go up dramatically if you join one.

Where is the feature, idea or suggestion?

I mean, you say it's for the devs, but you give them nothing to work with.

The eve learning experience is made all the harder if youre doing it on your own. Its tough but not impossible.

To ease you into the game you should really find some vets to coach you, they often offer free ships and skills to help you on your way. Eve University are probably the best for this so you should at least look them up.

EVE FAQ "7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY? No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided"

ganking is also a big part of the game the idea that no place is safe is a big selling point

same with the learning curve yes it is steep but the mechanics that make it so steep lead to much deeper gameplay than other games.

one thing you need to do is find a corp there are so many out there that are geared to help new players in all areas of eve from HS to NS and even WH space

once you do that the game opens up to you and it will drastically shallow the curve if you find a good one.

i spend almost all my time in eve helping newbros and vets trying something new i see how frustrating it can be but it does not need to be if you seek help from other players and no matter how good CCP makes the NPE it will never be as good as person to person help

You should have seen how the game was back in the old days then...

Back then you were dumped in rookie ship in the middle of nowhere, with only Aura (That useless trashcan) telling you to kill some random pirates and then fly to a station, in which you have no idea how to.

After getting to the station, it was repeatably everything kicking you in the nuts constantly, with the New Eden cluster being a *****. (sorry language)

So...

Yeah

It's the same tired complaint, rehashed under another name in another time and another place.

Doesn't make his complaint invalid, but what would CCP do? Their hands are tied.

Beyond the NPE Eve doesn't spoon feed you with content and direction, it shows you a picture of a spoon and tells you to find your own, which is kind of the point of playing a sandbox game.

Why were you restricted to checking your training queue? You should be out in space learning the mechanics of the game, and how to use those mechanics to protect yourself from the attentions of others. The training manual for Eve is social and hands on in nature; which is why newbies are encouraged to join a player corp as soon as they can.

It is possible to play Eve solo, but even the solo players have a social network to fall back on in most instances

The learning curve acts as filter, it discourages those who aren't up to the challenge. Those that like a challenge come back and try again, I had multiple trials before I managed to get a foothold on that infamous learning cliff.

TL;DR As CCP Soundwave so succinctly put it, "Welcome to Eve Online. Here's a Rubik's cube, go **** yourself."

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
