Aligning Issue?

So, does anyone else have an issue like this? I will start out being able to align to objects perfectly, but without even jumping to another system, as of today, I will suddenly stop aligning to an object and point straight up (in relation to normal direction of travel). If I restart client, it works fine for a while and then starts back up.

Any suggestions?

That sounds odd. I'd suggest you file a support ticket about the issue.

So are you now flying sideways or do you make an instant 90 degree turn? And at what speeds are we talking about (or are you talking about a "passive align" which is not aligned at all.)

Funny... my ship did the exact same thing yesterday, except it flew downwards.

Haven't seen it, and it definitely sounds like a problem but…

…that's just funny. The secret ganker cabal within CCP strikes again! The game now has random auto-bumping. Lol

Aaanyway,. My first suspicion would be the keyboard flight controls combined with some phantom input. Do you have keys set for manually controlling the flight path? If you do, does the issue persist if you remove or rebind them? Do you have any controllers or the like connected that generate any kind of remapped input (including gaming mice)? Do you use any kind of wireless input devices?

Yup this was my first thought if it's straight in one direction consistently. Says to me it's not phantom double mouse clicks cause then it'd be seemingly random.

no, not even any keyboard use. I cleared ALL of my levels of cache, restarting the launcher and client. It didn't do it again before I logged off, but was only online a short while afterwards. Will see if the problem persists.

You had to bind the manual flight controls yourself when they came out. But even then Id say what tippia said, it may just be flying straight upwards or downwards because something is activating the key bindings.

You can't command your ship by overview or anything whilst manually flying btw, even more proof that's probably your issue somehow. Go into the key bindings and check.

Oh, I perfectly understand, Hal Morsh — a mission like this requires courage, skill, and heroism… qualities you are clearly lacking. Have you forgotten you're one of the bloody immortals!?

Prior to this thread I saw two people complaining about this exact issue in help chat.

Bit creepy sounding. Like something is taking control of your ship.

Eek

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships

Drifters?...sly devils.Shocked

Possibly unrelated, but this wouldn't be the same thing that, at least for me and my crap connection, seems to happen when you briefly loose connection (So hate WiFi)? When that happens to me, my ship will suddenly be facing in an incorrect direction, but still aligning towards it's destination. Funny to watch happen in warp, my client stutters for a split second, then my ship will sudden change physical orientation and correct itself mid flight.

Kind of akin to warp drifting of old, though you can still kind of do that with a slow ship with a web alt or using an AB/MWD to quick align from zero velocity, like a MWD Bowhead/Cap/Super.

are you double clicking on things in your overview? that's usually why I end up drifting off

There use to be a glitch with that some time ago, wasn't there, where the server would misread a single click for a double? Or maybe I'm just imagining things...again.

This is something that I still hear about pretty often, but it isn't server related. It's actually a pretty good indicator that your mouse button is starting to die. There are fixes for it, but honestly, it's not worth the effort.
