Started playing Eve in 2007 and made many, many friends, and sadly lost some too (IRL).

This is where this post is about :

What can I do to secure my assets when I actually die IRL ?
-I don't need my characters to continue, they are "dead".

But I'd love to have a "will" posted to CCP, where I can point out 1 or more trusted characters that can actually "can have my stuff" when I pass away. Playing this game for so long got me assets, maybe not much in some eyes, but friends who would get my Nyx or all the ships I have, plus my wallet would have something to hold on and fly it in remembrance.

I've seen too many friends pass away (my name actually is a tribute to a friend I made in 1999 who died in 2004) to see that having some kind of relation to this "stuff" would make me feel better in keeping his name alive.

Did anyone consider this / think about it, and what are the options ?

(NO, I'm not going to suicide nor have any deathwish, don't worry :P)

You could leave your game information in an appendix to your will, with the request that the executor of that will distribute your in-game assets amongst those you designate and then close the account. Seems a bit more logical than foisting the burden on CCP.

And yes, my husband and me have thought of that, and have physical 'little black books' with all our game info (and other password protected stuff), in case of death or incapacitation.

Worst case, have your account login info available to the executor of your will and let the executor divvy up your lewt. Also, have a "goodbye post" pre-written. I doubt CCP is going to bust you (or rather the executor,) unless you drop a ridiculous amount of assets to random people (i.e. it looks like you've been hacked.)

You'll probably want to keep a couple of PLEX in inventory so the executor can activate your account without having to provide new credit card details.

Still risky tho ... just saying ...

The EULA is forgetting a few legal niceties. In some jurisdictions, barring prenuptial agreements, there is no separation of property between husband and wife, for one. And in case of death, SOMEONE had better close accounts and prevent subscriptions from running until kingdom come, so I am pretty certain an executor has a legal right to access the account to wind it up.

If i was to die i would like Celise Katelo to go into a charity fundraising event. CCP can choose the charity, perhaps have it at Fanfest.

This character has her name on the CCP monument P
She has lots of clothes
Gila / Tengu pilot

Everyone wins, CCP gets publicity, the charity event hopefully raises awareness & lots of money. A lucky player gets the character, on CCP terms. Perhaps make the event a lucky draw with buying Plex. P

What? Without meaning to sound facetious (well, a little, perhaps), are you suggesting that this charity event would raise awareness of the fact that...all of us will die at some point?

I run a notary service in game and I also handle execution of testaments. The way this works is such, that you pay me a little fee, and write down your will. I will then place an alt in a corp where it has access to the assets in question and can distribute them according to your will in case of your retirement from the game. Feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss the details.

Thanks for all the replies, some are very interesting.

I've left a note to my relatives, with a pointer to a friend I know IRL who knows how eve works, with a list of the accounts.

He can come to my house, log in with the details and distribute the assets to who I've listed.

I think this way you get around "account sharing" problems by just giving someone your account details.

TBH, since eve assets are not changable to real money, it's more as a legacy to me as player then anything else.
In another game I have some assets from my dear friend I lost so long ago, and cherish them as a token to our friendship. I'd like to do the same to the friends I have in Eve, and think I've worked it out.

Again, thx for all the replies, it seems there are more players that have thought this over.

Well, Bumble is officially off the UaE Christmas list.

I was being as helpful as I could - since when did being nice warrant a removal from one's Christmas list? Cry

YOU KNOW WHAT YOU DID.

BUT YOU DIDN'T QUOTE THE ADVICE EDITED IN THE POST, THUS SELECTIVELY MAKING ME APPEAR A HEARTLESS GIMP

Leather masks, heart conditions and good advice aside, you know what you did... the law of General Discussion is in place for a reason Bumble.. you cant just go violating it all willy-nilly like this. The forums would implode, cats would mate with dogs, horses would eat each other and bacon would taste like styrofoam. Is that what you want Bumble? DO YOU WANT BACON TO TASTE LIKE STYROFOAM YOU HEARTLESS MONSTER?!??!?

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

Sorry but stop being so bloody well flippant. Have some more respect and please read what i typed again. I meant awareness of a charity of CCP choice, with this i kinda imply about giving to a good cause.

Perhaps like a cancer charity, children with a life threatening illness etc. Something that most people overlook, because they choose to ignore what goes on around them.
