I have same issue, how did you solve it?

Following the latest revelations about MS's backported spyware I tried to install EVE on a brand new Debian 8 box last night as an experiment with this exact problem. Network connectivity painfully slow and at times non-existent.

I can log in and the update process starts, but tranquility status shows as "unknown" and the patching process looks like it'll never complete. It downloaded painfully slowly for a bit and then just stopped.

I'll have another go tonight, but you're not alone.

I've been playing EVE for something like 9 years now and it'll suck if this were the end. Sad

EDIT: I should add that I saw the other thread about a similar issue, and my internal fans were going nuts during this time, the launcher seemed to be loading the system like crazy. However unlike the guy in the other thread, I am using spinning disks and it is definitely not full... as I said it's a fresh install.

I decided to go with the path of least resistance: I installed PlayOnLinux to help me figure out dependencies and hacks and installed EVE using that. Patching process started off being a bit slow but caught some speed towards the end. It did stall at 99.9% and eventually I killed it once the room started warming up due to it thrashing 4 of my 6 cores. I restarted the launcher and got a "client ready", but was faced again with the usual: crappy launcher only loading partway and then dying (a symptom I've learnt to hate and live with on windows too).

After a bunch of restarts I got into game only to realise my newly minted install wasn't using vendor gfx drivers yet (everything 3D was black). Non-free repo's selected and gfx drivers installed I fought the launcher for another while and from there things went smoothly. EVE runs surprisingly well under Wine.

Man, I miss the old "launcher". The new one blows on any platform. :/ Why on earth does a launcher murder 4 cores?

Note to self: Hack PlayOnLinux to bypass launcher.

Just re-intsalling eve with the latest wine and am also suffering from painfully slow download speed through the launcher. Just adding my +1 this issue.

EDIT: Downloading perfectly now... no reason why though :)
