Pros and Cons of hubs that aren't Jita

I've always bought (materials) and sold (finished goods) at Jita because, well, it's Jita. What are the pros and cons of selling at another hub? Be advised I don't station trade, I manufacture T1 items (expanding into T2 at years end).

Slower turnover, larger margins.

Jita has people. About 3 to 4 times as many people as the next station in terms of people. Jita has 3 times the invested ISK compared to the next station. People means competition, this is why Jita has highest price for almost all materials across the board, and the lowest price for manufactured goods. Jita has consistency. If I update prices in IPH, the margins wont change between the time I gathered materials to the time I make a sale. Jita has volume, if I drop 10bil of trit in Jita, I expect it to sell overnight.

The other trade hubs are exactly opposite of that. Less volume, large and unexpected price hikes, less competition, higher costs of manufactured goods. This is why station traders reside in local hubs and regional traders have alts in Jita.

If you manufacture goods, the question that you should be asking is "Is material volume in non-Jita trade hubs enough for me to continue producing with given margins?"

Check this.. Both main minmatar hubs and secondary gallente hubs are FW oriented. Which means quite specific modules (frigate class weapons ) and lots of ammo / drones. Though Orvolle is also gate to null sec (so you can sell what null ppl need) and Stacmon is close to Brave newbie current playground (so - cruiser class warfare)

I must disagree with some of these generalizations. Sometimes they are right, but it is commonly the reverse. I always price check raw materials in various hubs before making large purchases. Lately, I can get 60% of my materials more cheaply from Jita. The volume available locally at a lower price than Jita is often too low, so I buy some locally and some from Jita.

Prices of manufactured goods are all over the place. They are usually more expensive in other hubs, but sometimes Jita is cheaper. It really depends on the item and the timing. I do agree that Jita generally offers more consistency in price and volume.

On your final point, why not ask "What is cheaper, sourcing locally or sourcing from Jita and having it moved via courier?" You can consistently have public courier contracts completed for a tiny fraction of the cargo value (as low as 0.3%). If you save 45 million ISK on a large supply order buying the mats from Jita and pay 2.5 million ISK to move it, you just lowered your production costs and gained a competitive advantage. Rather, since this practice is common, you overcame a competitive disadvantage.

Jita has lots of cons. Many of them are run by pros.

If I could only trade in one place, it would have to be Jita. But I don't like babysitting orders and prefer to trade multiple locations, so Jita tends not to be where I spend most of my time. If you like fast-paced trading and can spend the time it takes to continually update, I don't think anywhere else can compare in terms of potential profit.

Looking across EPM's user-base, I don't see any substantial difference between Jita vs non-Jita producers in profit profiles, except in cases where the producer is online a very significant amount of time, which works very well in Jita as the turnover is very good. For non-Jita producers, there's no upside to staying logged in really, as market movement trumps micro-isking, and for logged out producers, Jita is no better and no worse than other active hubs due to market movement trumps micro-isking.

Jita feels just too crowded and my orders are outbid before the page updates and show me the latest prices. I prefer the other hubs, since i can get higher margins and on average have my sell orders up a few minutes before they get underbid by others.

I like to trade plex and i frankly don't have the isk to have 100 buy orders up at the same time to be able to constantly update my prices :D
