Been looking at setting one of these up for my blops toons to get some "solo" hunting in through my NS static.

I've watched a ton of videos, looked around the forums, reddit, etc, etc, and I see a lot of people leaning towards t3's instead of the force recons.

Curious as to why, other than the bubble immunity, someone would choose to use a t3 over, let's say, an Arazu? I checked the fit on MasL/Guntar's hunting tengu, and it comes in at around 45k ehp, which is paper thin in my opinion. If you check their hunter KB it dies, and quite often for a ship that runs in at 700m.

Wouldn't something like an Arazu with ASB be better than that? Fitting 2-3 damps means you are pretty much not getting locked, and having the 50% reduction in cyno time means it is only going to be sitting there for 30 seconds, instead of the 60 a t3 would be subjected to. With an ASB you should be able to tank about 600dps for 60 seconds between reloads.

Anyone able to steer me in the right direction on this one?

i believe the preferred BLOPS tackle boats are the Arazu or Proteus (not Tengu).

Hey there,

T3s have a normal align time, good warp speed, good tank, Bubble Immunity, Combat Probes & utility highs for medium neuts.

Recons have bad align time, normal warp speed, normal tank, bad cap & Combat Probes.

Bombers have good align time, good warp speed, bad tank, no lock delay after decloaking and they don't cost much.

Prospects have good align time, good warp speed, bad tank, Combat Probes & they don't cost much.

Blockade runners have a bad align time, awesome warp speed, normal tank but bad tackle.


99% of your time you will spend flying through regions. High warp speed is just needed. Bubble Immunity or good speed with MWD is nice once you arrived at your waypoint and there are bubbles. (Yes, I'm looking at you A-J6SN)

I started with a loki but after ~15 drops I switched to the prospect cause it is much cheaper to loose (50mil), most ratting systems don't have every gate bubbled and many ratters panic anyways and don't even shoot back.

Never thought to use a prospect.... Would you happen to have a fit laying around?

Arazu is good choice. However dont forget you can bridge to regular cyno too. Lots of decent options.

I've flow with Bombers Bar a few times, and I usually see lots of Falcons and Rapiers. Also, a Prospect is also a good HK, if a bit squishy. I have never seen a T3 used as an HK yet.

A good precise analysis above by Soldier Forrester.

Bombers Bar uses (or used to use when I flew with them years ago) recons more for their EW-role than for tackle: Rapier webs and Falcon jams.

Another variation which we've used is to run a light-weight covops scout to find targets and then to cov-cyno a heavier scout into the area, say a system ajacent to the target system. My scouts are mostly covops-frigates, sometimes bombers, and my tacklers usually arazu, although a falcon can be tanked-up a bit better. Similarly a point / scram proteus can carry more tank ... but I still like the zoo.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.
