well with pulses + scorch you get decent enough range on bonused hulls, also hams can work, they are indeed very niche fit and not generally recommended but some people do amazing **** with them

and of course polarized torps are great on bombers, not kiting ship but they really shine on them

Well, if you can't fix a minor range issue with all those suddenly free slots, no amount of tank would save you anyway.

Torpedoes are fun - I just can't get consistently better results compared to cruise missiles. But this certainly isn't for lack of trying...

With cruise missiles, I'm waiting for the launcher cycle time to end (even with the target locked and pre-painted). With torpedoes, I'm waiting for the torpedoes to either reach their target or the target painter cycle to end (while the launcher sits idle). If the targets are at point-blank range and I need minimal damage application, then torpedoes will usually outperform cruise missiles. Otherwise anything at the extreme end range of torpedoes is problematic.

I could probably remedy this to some extent by dropping the target painters and going with a T2 rigor/flare combined with precision-scripted MGCs, but I don't think the damage application will be as great as a pair of target painters (due to stacking penalties) and I'd probably have to drop down to Faction ammunition.

I am currently away, traveling through time and will be returning last week.
