What do you do to stop thinking about work that doesn't involve drugs, alchohol or self-harm?

the trick is to stop thinking. then you can begin to control your wandering mind.

it's actually a lot harder than it sounds but easy to try.

step 1: sit somewhere quite.
step 2: stare at the wall
step 3: don't think of anything for 30 minutes

rinse and repeat daily.

Watch Manchester United, or go and watch the 49ers, both are good for taking your mind of stuff.

You guys forgot to mention exercise. Working the body long enough that you breath hard and sweat. Getting out and going for a long, hard hike is an easy option. It doesn't need any pre-arranging, such as a gym membership, finding a table tennis partner, whatever, plus you get to see some nature. If you work your body hard enough, your mind will clear right out of the picture. Smile

Edit: Oops, Santiago just said basically the same thing.

Phsyical activity is a good suggestion. Really anything that lets your mind go on cruise control for a little while.

I'm thinking that the problem a LOT of people have is that they never really give their brains any downtime. They spend their days at work focused on their jobs, they focus all evening on various things, and they fill any free time with television, video games, and other things that require them to pay attention to the entertainment. When they finally do go to sleep, they're too tired to lay down and rest, they simply crash into sleep--something they don't get enough of anyway. They're not allowing time for their mind to just wander and sort through all the information it has.

Try this: sit in a dimly-lit room for half an hour. Don't distract yourself with phones or computers or televisions or books. Just sit, and let your brain relax. It's not really meditation, you're just seeing where your mind goes when it's not occupied. If you don't fall asleep because you're too tired, I bet you'll start remembering all sorts of things, coming up with some great ideas to solve some problem or another, and then...daydreaming about whatever comes to mind. That's something your brain *wants* to do before you go to sleep every night, but a lot of people don't allow it...hell, we even medicate ourselves so we go to sleep faster rather than dealing with it.

Exercise gives you that time. While you run, or lift weights, or do whatever it is you enjoy doing for exercise, your mind is mostly free to relax and sort things out.

If you're thinking of a vacation don't go to the Caribbean, I swear I was asked at least 5 times a day if I wanted to buy drugs last time. I think the economy is causing tourism to drop off and the locals are getting desperate. It will just further your decent into dementia OP.

I can't believe this thread is still going! Lmao :P Just so you know guys, I found the cure, writing my thoughts down about a drawing rant style helped brilliantly, I can now have a proper break without having to constantly remembering what needs fixing now.

Sex would definitely help things even more, but I live in the UK :(

Physical Activity, something that really makes you sweat and struggle the better, gives you something else to focus on and its actually connected to anatomy but instead of looking at someone and visualizing their muscle and bone structure under their skin you just see your self getting stronger.

Meditation, great for clearing out thoughts. The recycle bin for the brain. Really nice to meditate after stretching after doing the exercise. It calms you down.

It really helps, I know. I learned anatomy too. :)

You live in the UK yet you have trouble finding women that would put out? Your either 25st or you live in a monastery on the Outer Hebrides.

Let me put this as delicately and diplomatically I can.... There are women in the UK, just none that I could ever see myself having sexual contact with never mind dating, that and we live on a small island, so there are honestly 3 - 4 guys following single girls around everywhere or they're with someone and/or have children.

*runs for the hills in case there are any of them lurking on the EVE forums*

I just need to get out of the bloody country I think :P
