weird "enter character" thing on launcher

so im going for the self thread necro of sorts, but this is still happening and now every single time i log on i need to pass through this "security" check at least once.

Very often i have to endure it twice in order to log in now. Most the time it just says the "incorrect character name" but it has started a new thing in the past couple of weeks where it starts carrying on for like 4 lines of text about browser and cookies, even though im actually attempting to log in via the launcher. Not even got anything eve related in a browser

There is an option to turn it off. It still happens when you enter the wrong password, but it does not show up when your Ip address changes then.

Now where might that option be hidden???

its not pointless, its to reduce someone randomly hacking your acocunt

how does it work? Anyone knows that entering name is not needed anyway.

Its pretty much to stop people who are trying random user name and password combo's or if they have your account info but don;t know which character is yours. its also a way to go "hey dumbass, your pass word was wrong' without making it obvious.

I sometimes get it even when I fill in the right password... very rarely though. I think it's when my IP changes, but I have no proof of that.

Mate, seriously, it's cos you are entering your password wrong. If you enter your password and this comes up, don't bother entering your char name, just hit back/cancel and reenter your password correctly. It's only a waste of time because your sitting there typing in your character name knowing full well your password is wrong.

This is true. It does show up when you legitimately are logging on from what it sees as a new location and you then do need to enter your character name.
