For hisec mission runners, missions are all about completion times.

The warp speed bonus on the Mach means you have battleship-sized tank and DPS, with cruiser-sized warp times. This is especially important when you are squeezing the actual mission time down below two minutes, with warp time taking over as the contributing factor to mission completion time.

I suspect the price being as low as it is has a lot more to do with the market being flooded (I saw Machariels for sale in Devoid, where there is no market), than with attractiveness of the ship for mission runners.

After all, a mission runner is going to replace that machariel how often? Once a year or less, depending on gankers?

I am guessing there is no need for expensive fast-warping battleships in PvP.

Machariels are quite useful for PvP. Arty machs in sufficient numbers can alpha targets into dust before they can catch reps.

I think the market is probably just flooded due to overfarming. Same story with the Rattlesnake, which is also extremely popular for PvP and PvE both and is going for 350M. Barghests and Bhaalgorns are also cheap as dirt right now. The only faction BS I can think of that still command high prices are the Vindicator and perhaps the Nestor; I haven't checked Nightmares lately but faction BS have dropped in price across the board.

prices on nearly all faction stuff are dropping. no big wars going on so everyone has a lot of time to farm items. Next time rather than price look at the volume of the ship. if anything it looks like the volume is up from a year ago. trend line shows sales up, and the other trend line is a 20d moving average: http://i.imgur.com/85E7Joo.png

and warp speed is awesome for pve and pvp. for pve it lets you get to/from sites faster. for pvp it lets you get to the target faster, or evade a hostile gang. Most BS are just too slow in warp to be all that great, many people are fitting warp speed rigs to BS to make them more usable.

plus the warp speed bonus is a 4th bonus, ain't no complaining about that!

personally I'm stockpiling machs, the ship is awesome and these prices can't be beat!

rattlesnakes were kinda useless and over farmed for years, not to mention how much space is constantly still farming guristas.
Bargs have had a decent price rebound with the heavy missile buff, and missile guidance comps. still pretty expensive compared to the other pirate BS. not really sure how people use them, but pretty low volume overall.
Bhaalgorns, are awesome ships, but very niche use, Rise said they were the least (maybe second?) used ship in game
Nestors have been hovering around a bil. many say just get a carrier instead, but they seem to have specialized uses.
Vindi is super low priced historically, still highest price of the old school pirate BS ~580m not bad.
Nightmare, price is falling fast. not really many uses for it in its current state.

Nestor is very popular among highsec mercs as a stand-in for triage...because well, highsec.

I have recently been on the receiving end of a squadron of arty machs. Was not a good day. If I had that kind of disposable ISK I would be stockpiling both those and rattlesnakes. The fact that Rattlesnakes are within 80M of Gilas in price is ridiculous. That can't hold forever.

It will prob drop further. They aren't being killed as fast as they are farmed.

Edit: now the geckos on the other hand...

Actually it can hold, and unless CCP change escalation and faction spawn rate prices will drop even more.

BPC for all old pirate factions battleships drop from :
- high level faction spawns
- high level escalations

Both where boosted, if you care to check dev blogs you will find out that race HEAVEN spawn now in -0.1 system.
So in every -0.1 system you can get faction spawn that can drop battleship BPC or escalation that can drop battleship BPC.

Price different only because local situation allow or block farming anomalies.
Rattlesnakes and Machariels are the cheapest as situation in regions where they drop is quite quiet.
Nightmare is next as it is almost useless in PVP and rattle outmatch it in most of the PVE situations.
Balaghorn and vindicator are bit more expensive as 'home land' is currently one of the "hottest" zone in eve ( no stable SOV, or alliance holding it).

In missions once you skill up, you hit a tipping point where the greatest amount of time is actually spent in warp. This helps push that limit further and further out.

hence the specialization bit, that and I think some Wormholers like them because they have very low mass for a BS. and potential for use in incursions.

Rattlers I mostly expect to probably stabilize or keep going down. so over farmed, plus whoever wants one probably has one, two, or ten, and I doubt they get killed much. Personally I have 7 plus a victory edition Pirate

I wish I had just bought a PLEX and dumped it into Geckos when they came out. 7M > 90M. And soooo amazing for PvP. Just thinking about it makes me sad.
