Simple question: do ANY of you guys undock a damaged ship on purpose?

If YES: please explain why, because I can't think of a single good reason

There's no logical reason this shouldn't be accessible. To the people saying just look at your hud, if you have dozens of ships and jump clones spread around there is no way to remember what ship at what station you left at 80% hull.

Any game where items have persistent durability should have this feature.

I have dozens of ships spread out across EvE and many characters it has never been a problem for me. I simply look at the indicator that is in front of me as part of the dock sequence. If the ship needs repairs I repair it as soon as I am docked. If the station does not provide that service enter that ship into a list I keep using the in game note pad. This is just as easy to access as the proposed ideas and it is better because you can layout your list to suit your preferences.

Setting all of that aside I still need an answer to the root causes here.
If a player cannot remember to check the HUD staring them in the face as they dock and take appropriate actions, what makes you think they will remember to check an indicator buried inside the fitting window or somewhere in their inventory screen before they un-dock?

I stated this before I am not specifically against these new indicators, I just need someone to give me a decent explanation of how they will correct what is at it's core a player issue not a game issue before I can or will support this.

It doesn't matter of they checked it or not. It's insane that you can dock a ship that's literally on fire and inside the hangar there is no indication what state it is in.

Imagine a world where the second you parked your car in the garage its odometer and fuel gage disappeared. It would be a pretty annoying world.

Instead of having a readout whilst in the captain's cabin or hanger, I think a visual sign would be better.

If your ship has armor damage you get some smoke rising from your ship.

If your ship has hull damage you get a flame as well as smoke or just more smoke. Either way you'll see that it's badly damaged.
