Get rid of shared cache?

Is there a possibility to get rid of the shared cache? I want 2 completely independent installations. I don't mind to update twice or even the extra diskspace it uses.

I do mind that since this shared cache I lost my settings 4 times now. Yes I know of the option in the launcher but after an update it is again a single shared cache. I want to get rid of it for ever!!

Your settings aren't even stored in the sharedcache folder, they're stored under the "\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\" folder.

You have a new PC? With new eve install that corrupts with every install attempt?

I'd check your PC hardware: in particular your ram and to a lesser degree hard drive.

Are you experiencing issues like this with other online games that require large downloads to fully install?

Weird PC failure/problems within the first 30-90 days of ownership aren't uncommon, even with generally great hardware.

Checked ram, videocard, harddisk in no other game did I experience this. Even checked internet connection and networkcard all are doing fine. Tried another keyboard and mouse still having this issue.

One of my friends plays eve with his own account on this machine with less rights he isn't affected but he can't come near my account. The reason why I want it seperated.

I'm going to go with Valarra here. Sounds like a harddrive integrity issue. More than likely the sector assigned to your settings folder is corrupt.
Download your brand drives integrity tool (Seatools for seagate but works with other drives as well) and you can verify whether it's a drive issue. If it is you can either cordon off that sector and hope for the best (once a drive starts there's no stopping it), or backup what data is on there and request an RMA for what's known as a "DOA" or Dead On Arrival. DOA doesn't always mean completely nonfunctioning, it also covers usability flaws like fatally dead sectors.

Use symbolic links for multiple clients:

https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Multiple_clients

Make sure resource cache is the same for all of them, including test server.

I don't want that shared resources because that means that other who log on can get to my resources or delete them. Remember 2 different installations on 2 different hard disks that is not an option and again lost the settings. Let me say this the only way to let it work is to give account rights on this pc I will not give to two other persons

Since this fun with the shared resources I have had about 2 terrabyte of download and about 25 times I lost my settings. Not counting the times my nephews had the same.

I'm struggling to understand the problem here, since the settings are not at all in the shared cache. Here are the default locations for various things (on Windows 8.1):

Install: C:\Program Files (x86)\CCP\EVE\
Settings: C:\Users\«yourusername»\AppData\Local\CCP\EVE\c_program_files_(x86)_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings\
Shared cache: C:\ProgramData\CCP\EVE\SharedCache\
In-game logs and screenshots: C:\Users\«yourusername»\Documents\EVE\

The shared cache (of art assets and static data) is intended to be shared across multiple installs, even test server install, and the content is revisioned on the file level.

You can have multiple settings folders, since they are per install. Either by having actual separate install or more simply by creating junctions or symlinks.

The slim installer is 97.4 MB and then Download on Demand will simply download resources as you need them. 2 TB of data sounds strange, what exactly are you doing?

what the hells are you talking about?

Shared cache has zero to do with other people. it is merely a folder on your own computer that downloads the data and allows you to setup multiple clients or different reasons and not have to keep reinstalling that stuff. No one else, but you, has access to this data. Unless you have someone else who uses your pc, but then they should have there own account on your pc so they can;t mess wiht your settings. I think you don;t know what you are talking about, because i am confused. the eve client should not be 2TB... hell my current hard drive is only 1TB and eve is not eatting up the entire thing.

so.. as explorer said.. what exactly are you doing?

set the "download all the recource files" from launcher settings on .. make desktop shortcuts to yours and your nephew windows users to the launcher in the install folder .. then make 2 symlinks from the install folder one for you and 2nd your nephew .. then open one .. go to /bin/ and shortcut from exefile.exe to your desktop rename to whatever u want .. same for the other symlinked install folder but shortcut goes to the 2nd windows user desktop ..

now to play clicky on the desktop shortcut to the exefile .. if cannot connect or incompatible build open up the launcher shortcut to update or open the launcher before the exe file ..

this is how i helped to set up a friends pc when he had similar issue .. hes admin user is logged in 24/7 and has sheduled set to open launcher every day hour after dt to check updates. so the guy logging in with the windows limited user dosent have to update anything ..

EVElopedia < add this to your sig to show u WANT it back

Well I get the full download with all resources partly my decission. whenever one of my nephews logs in with his account on this pc either he or myself will get the full install.

Neither of them has been here for a month, now in that month no large install.

Only way to get it to work tested is give them more rights on the cache directories. Because those directory's are very low in the structure of rights it means they need rights on my files.

That is the problem partly because when i start the 2nd client (I do have the rights) it will point to another cache directory. The settings will probbaly get deleted because of the client thinks it needs to repair itself.

My rights all but for admin (that is a separate account)
Nephew 1 has rights to dir 1 and cache 1
Nephew 2 has rights to dir2 and cache 2

Both data and progs are seperated for them.

Both have a seperate sata disk for some other stuff Btw the download with 130Mb/s is fast but the 2Tb is of all the installations. That sata disk is theirs an can be inserted in my pc. when they leave they take that disk with them.
