I served the State in Her Navy until the age of 35. I considered it more of a stepping-stone than a career, with the intent of an academic career later in life. While my studies focused on Military Theory, I considered myself a student of literature. While my best-known published works are treatises on the evolution of military tactics and technology, I also studied Amarrian literature quite deeply. The language, and the Empire's oft-obfuscated history, fascinated me then as it does now.

I received my discharge at the age of 35, when the CN Gaisho was destroyed and I lost my eye and arm. This one event, not even a footnote in Caldari history, changed my life. My father was and still is a career soldier, even now slogging through endless "hot wars" on remote worlds with his boots in the mud. When I announced that I was going to pursue a career as a teacher of literature, he unceremoniously disowned me.

I spent the next thirteen years as a student in the Federation, funding my studies largely through residual income from re-printings of the textbooks I had contributed to in earlier years. Five years ago my mother died after a long battle with cancer. The news brought me home, and I lost interest in my literary studies. I was unsure of what to do with my life, and a dear friend - a Gallente capsuleer by the name of Deuce Halcyon - suggested that I be tested for compatibility. Ironically enough, my new life has been mostly as a combat pilot, which has gone a long way toward mending my relationship with my family. But I still read as much prose as I can get my hands on.

Having been born and raised at the School at FDZ4-A VIII - 3, I was taught a great many things about New Eden by my Mentor, my mother's teacher and for whom I was named; from the minute I learned of Empyreans, I yearned to become one myself.

I received schooling and training at the School before transferring to the Univerist of Caille for my final certification, courtesy of my sponsor, and I now continue the same pursuit of knowledge I have from the beginning - only now on a much larger scale than ever before.

My batch was tested for compatibility and two of us demonstrated the necessary qualities.

I was ordered into capsuleer training.

For the first time since I started the conversation, he looks me dead in the eye. In his gaze are steel jackhammers, quiet vengeance, a hundred thousand orbital bombs frozen in still life.

Once I was confirmed Capsule compatible my father pushed me to enroll. His hope was that I would enlist to work for the Caldari Navy as he did, but on a higher level. He was a big believer in "The Way' and always pushed me to prove myself.

Thankfully other Capsuleers showed me the error in that line of thinking. While the Navy was the height of his potential, limiting myself to it was an insult to mine.

It seemed like a good idea at the time and I had the opportunity to do it.

I am also a human, straggling between the present world... and our future. I am a regulator, a coordinator, one who is meant to guide the way.

I went straight into the Imperial Academy when I was old enough. I studied Electronic Warfare and Information Security at the academy - but as soon as my enlistment was ended I discharged and started working toward my capsuleer implants. I wanted to study the sleepers, like my father does.

The more I thought over this the more I realized that it was actually for the power, ISK, and exotic dancers. Then another epiphany occured...I don't really care about power or ISK.

Why i became a capsuleer? Because i could. I was born a spacer, and when the chance to advance appeared in front of me, i took it. Now i live forever, and can fly among the solar winds and hear their songs. And get filthy rich in the process.

Such mundanity and frankness about said mundanity is refreshing. I'm seeing way too many 'great causes' in these parts.

A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.

Mon and Dad work hard for Lai Dai back in Nuken to get a good life to me and my brothers and sisters, and in a way to repay that effort, i took the chance to get a better life when it was in front of me.

I was offered an opportunity. Only a fool would not act on it.

I did it for the money. My family had recently been emancipated and we were trying to get established. When we found out I was compatible they convinced me to sign up. I took a second job and a few loans so I could afford the registration fees.
